I just checked my "junk mail" tab on my email account and see that I have 51 unopened messages. I believe that they clear this out daily, but I seldom peek at who is trying to junk me up.

Evidently they think I need Viagra, need investment advice, am interested in lending a hand to friends in Nigeria, am interested in replica Rolex watches and other replica deals.

Jokes on them! I do not need any of that crap! Or do I?

I use free Hotmail and get very few junk e-mails.

I so do not miss all the outrageous porn that used to open up and shock me when I'd log into my commercial e-mail account...honestly, I had no idea people actually DID some of those things

I would expect that you will get junk mail if you have your account long enough. I have had gmail for years and I get plenty of junk mail, it just never appears in my inbox. Is your spam box empty ?

Mine is not very old perhaps 2 years at that. Very little spam. Then again I do not sign up for very many things.

One of the ways that spam filter companies used to determine what is spam is that they create thousands of e-mail addresses and never subscribe them to anything so that whatever is sent to them is, by definition, unsolicited and so they build their database of spam sites and addresses.

So, you can expect that over time the spam will increase although the gmail spam feature is excellent and re-directed spam mail is kept for 30 days although you can always empty the spam folder anytime you want.

So I suppose it isn't necessary to invest in um, enhancement products.

It could be that your machine has a virus that is sending out spam to others (and yourself). Not good.

Or it could be that the spam is just altering the emails so it looks like they come from your address.

At any rate, never respond. That just validates the address and can get you more spam. In addition, turn off any auto display of images - often those tie back to a server that in turn validates that the email they sent to you was opened (they use a unique number for each address they send).

Sounds like someone is using your account to send stuff out. Also using your address list. Now may be a good time to change your password.
