I really thought I had this down... but I'm troubled by something.

I'm reviewing my statement from December 2014. It shows

12/17 XXXXX You bought (Quantity) 3517.020 (Price per Unit) 15.21000 (Transaction Amount) -53,493.88

However, the broker shows this lot today as

REPORTED
12/17/2014 Short ... (Cost Basis) $49,757.38

What could account for the difference between the amount I paid for it and its current cost basis?

UPDATED: Please delete this thread... apparently the broker applied the wrong cost basis approach (avg cost versus lot-specific).

Just wait for the 2015 1099Bs come out and are revised a half dozen times due to incorrect information.

1099-Bs come out too late to make additional 4th quarter estimated tax payments to avoid underwithholding penalties.
