Protesting against Freedom - Rally against Gay marriage.............

Times change.  I would like to think people evolve.  For the better.  But they don't always.

An excellent example of human social evolution is the Balkans. There are other examples. Post-Colonial Africa is one that comes readily to mind. I notice even our intrepid "travel 'til I drop" posters aren't often planning sojourns in Sub-Saharan Africa, although someone did mention Dubrovnik as a destination.

Some would even question social evolution here in the good old USA. Some things better, some worse, but there does seem to be some kind governor working that tends toward so-so- results at best.

Ha

Yeah, go ahead and speak up.  We'll keep an open mind.  Until we lynch you.
Oh Horsepuckey.   :)  The poor, oppressed, white, middle-class, christian majority.   :'( :'( :'(  I weap for them.

The law currently only recognizes their view of marriage, but they aren't happy with that.  They worry that sometime now or in the future, they won't have a large enough majority to keep the laws that force their lifestyle choices on everyone else in place.  They want to make the hurrdle of change higher.  Pass a constitutional admendment.  The laws aren't enough.  They want to control everyone's lives now and into the future whether they have a majority or not.  They are only looking out for everyone's best interest.  Other people aren't riteous enough to see that their religious beliefs are the only ones that should be tolerated.

And for all their efforts on our behalf, what do they get:confused:  Persecution from the unclean liberals who believe that tolerance of different lifestyles is actually acceptable.  The poor, oppressed, white, middle-class, christian majority.   :'( :'( :'(  I weap for them.

first of all i've just got to say, you guys are hysterically funny.

I view...amendments as coming from the people...The const'l amendment in question would prevent the state from enacting legislation to allow gay marriage.

when separation of powers blurs, protection against the tyranny of the masses withers.

They're called "Preppies." Is it 1981 where you live, by any chance?

yes, well, apparently there's still three of them left and they always seem to be at my restaurant.

Could you give the source documentation of this assertion?

i suppose, by mickj's post, i was still quoting the kinsey figure, failing to keep up with both changing stats & fashion. i might have been thrown off by the guys in that sweater and by my own environment. my area is estimated in local newspapers at between 30 & 40% gay. we don't congregate socially, only coming together to bring up property values. of the 16 previously dilapidated lots on my block, one is our new local library and one empty lot owned by a church; 5 are owned by gay guys, one is rented by lesbians, you can tell which is which by the landscaping.

in any case, a lower percentage only strengthens my argument that cost is just a cover, not a real issue.

A kid in my class who was gay killed himself.

i know of at least two suicides and three other early "accidental" deaths among my ancestors. i'm gay, i have a lesbian cousin in n.y., a gay cousin in san francisco and here in florida another cousin who's not a lesbian who's been living with the same woman for 25 years. i suppose, for some, a closet is better than death. the ny lesbian cousin and i checked out pictures of all our dead ancestors a few months back. if our gaydar is still working & if we can indeed see it even in pictures. yeah, it's genetic. only according to some, less than human.

It doesn't involve horses, does it? Because even the open-minded people on this board seem to come down against the horse thing. ;)

Only if the horse was forced against its will! :D

Music as metaphor...

Some years back, I saw Charlie Daniels' Band at the Texas State Fair. They are still a great jam band, btw. When it came time to do "Long-haired Country Boy", the words "will take another toke" were changed to "will tell another joke", undoubtedly in a nod to CD's current religious stance, and not coincidentally a nod to the kiddies in the audience. I wonder, though, if the song is now "offensive", why are they still playing it...

Ironically, the next song after LHCB was "sittin' on a barstool, drinkin' like a damned fool, drinkin' my troubles away..."  ::)

On a more current note, the number two song on GAC (Great American Country) channel is "Jesus Take the Wheel"; number one is "Honky-Tonk, Badonkadonk"...

"will take another toke" were changed to "will tell another joke"

Good lord, if this kind of censorship keeps up, we're going to start having lyrics like "Let's spend the night together" twisted around into "let's spend some time together".

I just hope I don't get caught up in any of that funky kicks going down in the city. :p

Really good show...

"...Fully dressed, with chaperones, and with our moms and dads, and the federal government all geting a full video feed at all times. And none of that pot that makes you nutty and kill people. But alcohol and cigarettes and a good dousing with crude oil are all permissable. Oh yeah, and in concordance with the Bible."

Except no drinking on Sundays before noon. Cigarettes are ok on Sundays, as long as they are smoked at church AFTER the sermon/mass/goat sacrificing ceremony.

In these parts the goat (and steer) sacrificing ceremony is known as a "BBQ". And drinking is definitely permitted, regardless of the day or time. ;)

Diversity. Such a funny thing. We use pork up here for BBQ. I hear up north they barbeque hot dogs and hamburgers. Not sure how they do it though.

I found out that you can't buy beer before noon on Sundays here the hard way. I was actually awake by noon on a Sunday AND being productive (shopping), when the clerk refused to sell me a bottle of wine with my $100 of groceries. Guess I should have been in church instead of preparing to sin. ::)

When I lived in the northeast, it was common for someone to refer to grilling as 'barbecuing' because you did it on a 'barbecue grill'.

No worries, though. Here in DFW, church is always over in time for the Cowboys' game... :D

This thread may have to be moved to the "Best Of" category. Take a look back at the twists, turns, and roller-coaster ride the posts have taken since CT started his rant on gay marriage protests!

All this entertainment, and it's almost free.. ;)

Whatdda mean - almost free:confused:?

Some of us are going to get a bill?

Hey - I'm only reading this one.

heh heh heh heh

OAP, I'd really like to learn more about the meds you are taking as you recover from your recent illness. Do you actually have to go inside a pharmacy and use a prescription to purchase them? ::)
