Here I come to save the day, my dads '59 Rambler American, could pick up Radio Moscow at night.

Back in the day, with megawatts of power and antennas stretching across the horizon, Radio Moscow poured into targeted areas with such strength they could be heard on even the least sensitive receiver.

One of their transmitting frequencies was in the middle of the USA 40 meter ham band allocation. They were so strong that when you'd tune across them, your signal strength meter would fly against the pin and you'd be jumping for the volume control.

Those fellas knew how to make RF and squirt it where they wanted it!

The impressive thing is that your dad's Rambler American had a radio that covered some shortwave bands. Common on European cars back then, that was a rare feature on American cars. But hearing Radio Moscow.......easier than a Chicagoan hearing The Barn Dance on WLS!
