running a credit check on tenant

Not sure if I'm posting this in the correct place. I know some people here are landlords. How does one go about running a credit check on a potential tenant? I searched on-line and came up with many companies offering this service. I see that some require a site inspection due to new laws. Just wondering if someone can recommend a particular service. Thanks.

Haven't run one in over 20 years of rent collecting. Been stung some too. Betcha thefed is hep to credit reporting sites.
