Songs to say goodbye

For the slightly younger folks, one of my favorite bands might fit the bill:
Oingo Boingo Goodbye-goodbye Lyrics

Songwriters: ELFMAN, DANNY
Oh, I know something
About the ways of loving
And I tell you, baby,
That something's wrong
Look to the sky above and the mud below
Something drives me crazy, got to got to get away
Goodbye, Goodbye, Goodbye, Goodbye
Goodbye, Goodbye, Goodbye!

Without a doubt, I'm telling you I'm burnt out
My tank is running on empty for far too long
Woah! I need fuel 'cause I'm getting so low
Something drives me crazy, got to, got to get away
Goodbye, Goodbye, Goodbye, Goodbye
Goodbye, Goodbye, Goodbye!

I need fuel, just the kind you give me
Makes me feel so bad
Goodbye, Goodbye, Goodbye, Goodbye
Goodbye, Goodbye, Goodbye!

I can't believe
I'm still around
It's getting kinda late
Gonna leave
For a change of scenery
I'm going crazy
It's not the same
Since you've been around

I'm crazy, so crazy
You treat me like a dirty clown
You're always kickin' my dog around
I never get nothin' but constant abuse from you
You couldn't care less what I think, or my point of view

You're always puttin' the make on my friends, always giving
Them eyes and the dirty lies 'bout me and you, well I'm
Through, it's the end of the line for you babe, here's a
Ticket one way Cincinnati, I'm sendin' you home to your ma
And your daddy, so don't try to call me, you'll only be wastin' your
Time!

Oh, I know something
About the ways of loving
And I tell you, baby,
That something's wrong
Look to the sky above and the mud below
Something drives me crazy, got to got to get away
Goodbye, Goodbye, Goodbye, Goodbye
Goodbye, Goodbye, Goodbye!

Didn't like your job much? Boingo also has you covered!
Kiss My Ass ( 1st Version ) Lyrics

Oingo Boingo

a real sweet guy I keep my word, And everybody knows that it's boys are seen and not heard.
So,I scream so loud, that people turn away. And they say such bad things about me.
Do I want their sympathy? ( No! ) Do I seek respect? ( Big Deal! ) For them I have but one request... ( What's that? ) Get on your knees and kiss my ass!
Kiss it,kiss it,kiss it! Kiss my ass! Kiss it,kiss it,kiss it!
I'm a real sweet guy But girls are afraid of my face, And I don't know why But I don't really care either way!
And I hear them laughing, And I see the look in their eyes, It's so cruel and mocking!
Do I want their sympathy? ( No! ) Do I seek respect? ( Big Deal! ) For them I have but one request... Get on your knees and kiss my ass!
Kiss it,kiss it,kiss it! Kiss my ass! Kiss it,kiss it,kiss it! Kiss my ass! Kiss it! Kiss my ass!
And I hear them laughing, And I see the look in their eyes, It's so cruel and mocking.
Do I want their sympathy? ( NO! ) Do I need respect? ( BIG DEAL! ) For them I have but one request... ( WHAT'S THAT? )
Get on your knees, get on your knees, Get on your knees, get on your knees, Kiss it,kiss it,kiss it,kiss it,kiss it,kiss it, KISS MY ASS!

I LOVE break-up and 'good-bye' songs. Written with great passion, and not that mushy 'in love' stuff. Two of my favs:

Linda Ronstadt at her slender, cutest, and always great:

Linda Ronstadt - You're No Good - 1976 - YouTube

And the Eagles (I posted this recently) - Already Gone

Already Gone The Eagles - YouTube

How can you top a line like "And you'll have to eat your lunch all by yourself!" - Take that!

Hah - serendipity - I just picked those of the top of my head, but the Eagles were Linda R's early back-up band! Is that them on the first?

OK, nothing to do with the thread, but I love these weird connections. In checking on Ronstadt's bands, I came across this:

Lloyd Groff Copeman - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lloyd Groff Copeman (28 December 1881 – 5 July 1956)[1] was a prolific American inventor who devised the first electric stove and the flexible rubber ice cube tray, among other products.

Lloyd was Linda Ronstadt's grandfather. He's got a list of patents a mile long.

Back to our regularly scheduled program....

"Time for me to fly" by REO Speedwagon from the late 70s I think.

LOL, I was having a big fight with my high school boyfriend back in the early 1970's, and he said he just didn't understand me. Right then, this song came on the radio. It was interesting timing, and we broke up that night!

Simply Red - If You Don't Know Me By Now - YouTube

Since my #1 & 2 were already claimed (Johny Paycheck & The Who), here's one for the retire to hit the road types-

I an suprised "Take this Job and Shove it has not made the list" That of course is a way to quit pure and simple and burn the bridges while you are at it.

This old soul song has a classic line:

Now take your little albums and your raggedy component set that never worked
And you can scat
Listen from the beginning for the full effect, or skip to 4:20 for Betty Wright's classic goodbye speech.

For break up songs, it's hard to beat Cee lo Green's "Forget You". Especially the uncensored version, where the first word isn't "forget", but starts with the same letter.

"Rearviewmirror" by Pearl Jam is one of my favorite songs, period. Great breakup song, but could also very much apply to leaving a workplace after a 20-year beat-down!!

I took a drive today
Time to emancipate
I guess it was the beatings,
made me wise
But I'm not about to give thanks
or apologize

I couldn't breathe,
holdin' me down
Hand on my face,
pushed to the ground
Enmity gaged,
united by fear
Forced to endure
what I could not forgive

I seem to look away
Wounds in the mirror waned
It wasn't my surface
Most defiled
Head at your feet,
fool to your crown
Fist on my plate,
swallowed it down

Enmity gaged,
united by fear
Tried to endure
what I could not forgive

Saw things,
saw things
Saw things,
saw things
Clearer, clearer
Once you, were in my rear view mirror

I gather speed
from you f***ing with me
Once and for all,
I'm far away
I hardly believe,
finally the shades
Are raised, hey

Saw things so much clearer
Once you, once you (Rear view mirror)
Saw things so much clearer
Once you, once you (Rear view mirror)
Saw things so much clearer
Once you, once you (Rear view mirror)
Saw things so much clearer Once you Oh yeah

So... maybe not a great song for an amicable farewell, but I still love it! Stick it to the man!! ;-)
