We no longer respond to phone calls regarding surveys. We just hang up with no response once they identify themselves.

I also hate the p*litical surveys, because I know they just need a contribution from me.

OTOH -most companies nowadays are ISO (International Organization for Standardization) certified and are required to ask their customers: "How are we doing" in order to pass the ISO audit. It's a pain, but I used to do it at w*rk.

I also refuse to take phone calls or respond to mail that addresses me by the wrong name, often a phone call from someone called Jennifer who is clearly in New Delhi. I once asked such a caller what her real name was, and she admitted that Jennifer was just the name she had been assigned to phone customers in North America. Her real name was something authentically Indian and pretty, though I do not remember what it was. We had a nice chat!

Just now I got to take a survey about the branch library near my house. I don't know the purpose. It could be innocent or it could be the first step in consolidating branches. I gave everyone there the highest possible marks for all categories. Quality of the data in surveys like this may be suspect, since everyone involved (including me) may have ulterior motives. Hard to reliably base decisions on such soft data.

I will give feedback (good or bad) in response to services/goods provided or if its short and there is some kind of prize draw (ok, I've never won anything thing but I can dream).

I make a practcie of telling anyone who cold calls me at home with a survey or sales pitch to foxtrot oscar in the rudest possible terms. Just hanging up is too good for them.

The poor slob on the other end of the line is just trying to earn his $8.50/hour. No need to be harsh on them. Hanging up does the job and gets them off to their next harassing phone call ASAP.

Yeah, I mostly agree with that, though there is a part of me that wants to make cold-calling jobs so miserable that no one wants to do them for any price...
