Free works, some of the Science & Tech and Business articles have been good reads.

Science & Technology - The New Yorker

From the FAQ
Q. Do I need a subscription to access newyorker.com?
A. No. For a limited time, the full contents of every new issue, plus everything we’ve published since 2007, as well as select older stories, are freely available on newyorker.com. Later in the year, all readers will be able to enjoy a select number of articles per month before being asked to subscribe, and subscribers who have selected a digital plan will get unlimited access to newyorker.com. (Digital subscribers can also download our magazine app for tablets and smartphones, and get access to archives.newyorker.com, which contains everything we’ve published since 1925.)

Thanks.

If you are not aware, a number of libraries have free subscriptions to Zinio, an online magazine service, with access to a number of great magazines like National Geographic, Cooks Illustrated, newsweek etc. Unfortunately, my library at least, doesn't have the New Yorker.
