What happens in an offset collision between a 2009 Malibu and a 1959 Bel Air. We all wish cars (and everything else) were cheaper, but it's pretty amazing how much safer cars are today, they're a bargain when you really consider the complexity of a modern car.

According to safety engineers at the scene, the driver of the 2009 Chevrolet Malibu would likely have suffered slight knee injury. The driver of the 1959 Chevrolet Bel Air would have died instantly.

That is kind of an eye-opener. I do vividly remember when I was a police officer in patrol division and when air bags first came out I was astonished to see people walk (or at least limp) away from wrecks that I was certain should have been fatal.

Made a believer out of me!

That crash test dummy in the 1959 car made me flash back to the gruesome driver's ed films they made us watch in high school.
