What's the oldest item of (adult) clothing you own?

A 'party suit' from 1971! Vietnam. Those pilots of that era will know what it is. I am about 15 lbs to heavy to fit into it! lol

Edit: Forgot, I have a letter sweater from TCU 1963.

I have a suede vest. I purchased a suede cape in Tiajuana in 1971. A couple of years after that I bought a vest pattern and fit it to the cut of the suede with the snaps down the front. My mom the home ec teacher said it wouldn't work. Still wear the vest when I need a cowboy look.

Personal (1st owner) - A Sloppy Joe's T-Shirt from Key West from a 1982 College Spring Break trip.

Pass down (2nd owner) - A leather "Pilot style" jacket that my dad bought ~ 1960

3 bespoke suits 25 years old. Almost never wear suits now and I have newer off the rack ones when I do but I can't bring myself to throw them away.

I have a lot of bespoke pieces, bought the last few years before I retired 5 years ago. They don't get much wear but when I need to "clean up" they come in handy.

Mention of down vests reminded me of another: one I made from a Frostline kit in 1978. Just wore it this past winter.

So, no one has any of those polyester Disco shirts from the 80's? No granny glasses or 18 inch bell bottom trousers from the 70's.

I have a mesh shirt from my college. Even if I could wear it today, I would never. I’m not sure what it called, but it has no mid section. Quite fashionable at the time. Especially if one had a stomach worth showing off, which I did. Now, :) , not so much. That would have been around 1985. I wore it for me PE class - Tennis. I think I got rid of the shorts.

hmmm, still have my first lab coat (corporate) from back in the mid-70's and my Bolder Boulder shirt from the mid 80's
I got rid of most older clothing when I retired, especially stuff I knew I'd never need again

Does anyone still have one of those Members Only jackets? I never bought one, because, as Groucho Marx once said, " I don’t care to belong to any club that will have me as a member."

Gore-Tex shell pants circa 1986. Still use them for spring skiing every year.

Sweatshirt from Budget Gourmet. Could be 30 years old. Looks like it. My fishing sweatshirt

I think the oldest piece I own is a black velvet walking/Sunday "bucket" hat from the 1920s. It always reminded me of the "nice" but subdued hats the English country house serving girls would wear to church. It looks vaguely like a deflated top hat, and I LOVED wearing it. I have a bunch of vintage dresses/tops and hats from the 1930-1960s. I wore them in high school because I was a weird art girl, and didn't like dressing like everyone else.

I have my old high school jacket from the mid 1960's. I decided to hang onto it a bit longer to wear at my 50th class reunion later this summer.

I still own and occasionally wear a pair of granny glasses (sunglasses). Late '60's; early 70's? Also have a collection of vintage ties (40's 50's). Love the art deco look.

I have a Patagonia rain jacket that I purchased thirty five years ago. It was an expensive purchase at the time but I still use it today so I think that I got my money's worth from it.

I forgot to include in my previous post, I still have my gymnastics team jacket and team uniform (leotard) from the early 1970's. YES, they still fit!

I still have a drawstring bag made from a pair of jeans from the 70's...darn thing refuses to wear out. To make the bag, I opened up and re-sewed the flat felled seams that give jeans their sturdiness.

I used it for 20+ years to carry shoes to and from work; was one of the early adopters of changing from athletic shoes (in the parking lot) to pumps (in the office), and took plenty of ribbing for it too, as I recall. "Gee, those sneakers look great with that suit," etc. Yes, I knew women in NYC had been doing it for years, but where I worked was kind of a backwater.

The oldest thing I have is a suit from the early 1980s, yes it fits. This thread reminded me of an afghan my DM started making for me 50 years ago, I was probably 12. She asked what colors I wanted and I told her , "all of them mom". Today I still have what looks like a Pride afghan!

I don't think I have anything older than my Birkenstocks, that I bought from Zappo's in 2001.

But then there is my "little black dress" that I kept after I retired, for funerals. I think I bought it from Dress Barn somewhere between 2000-2002, although I'm not sure exactly when.

I have a 3 or 4 OP (Ocean Pacific) brightly colored cotton hawaiian look shirts from early 80's. I was l leading fall hikes with the Audubon Society and wore them instead of hunters orange.

I still have a Spec. 4 (Specialist 4th class) insignia fatigue jacket (ca. 1955 to 1959) which I purchased in 1960 at the army surplus store. Best buddy and I used to play "war" in my big back yard (ages about 13 through 15) wearing our authentic jackets. Full disclosure: It no longer fits, heh, heh. It's one of my "toys" I never had the heart to get rid of.

Gave mine to the kids for "80s day" at school...my favorite was sort of a cornflower blue color.

For "70s day" they also took some of my dad's old Sansabelt polyester pants.

I think this still must have its uses! A bathing suit and towel? Supplies for the pet? I am impressed at your imagination in turning it to new uses.

Pumps? PUMPS? Maybe you could pass it on to some unfortunate still wearing them. Do you still own any?

1977 High school basketball jacket as captain of the team.
