Where do you get reliable news?

Had a discussion about where to get news that is actually reliable. We agreed that FOX has a bias in its reporting and therefore can't rely on their news. CBS and NY Times have recently had verification problems. As FinanceDude has pointed out in another threat, you cannot believe postings on the internet. So the question is, where to you go for reliable news sources?

I'll start. I look to CNN, C-Span, Chicago Tribune, Wall Street Journal and Business Week for news. How about others?

Limbaugh, Hannity, Bill O'Reilly and The NRA (Just kidding folks) :) I do like FOX (fair and balanced?)
very much though, as I think the terrible bias lies elsewhere (no surprise there).
Fav. newspaper is WSJ. No cable here.
Lately it seems to me that almost all the news sources I am personally
exposed to have an "agenda".

Interesting Topic. Radio More than TV Catch a BBC Rebroadcast and local news from Local Stations. TV - I may watch 15 minutes of BBC, PBS, and Local News from CHCH (Local TV Station). TV news takes too much time. Intenet - Local Newspaper, CNN and CBC.

BBC - radio and online. Gives different perspective with a more global view IMHO. Reporters don't let the people interviewed just get away with talking points, actually challenges there points.

Start with McNeill Lehrer for a dose of reality. Then flip back and forth between O'Reilly (on FOX for the right wing spin) and Oberman (on MSNBC for the fair and balanced) Then watch Scarborough for a moderate Republican who is pretty distressed with his party (also MSNBC). Finish up the evening with John Stewart and you are good to go. Do it all on TIVO and it is easy to keep up.

I forgot to add, during commercials with Scarborough you can pop over to watch Hannity and Combs make asses of themselves -- but that can prove a painful excercise. How did the "fair and balanced" channel ever permit Hannity to hand pick a dunce as an opponent? They should be drummed out of ligitimate news for that alone.

I have a personal rule of only one understatement per day, so i'm going to use it early;

ummmm, no.

Inside Edition and Entertainment Tonight. I kid.

foxnews.com, wral.com for local news and weather. Economist. Otherwise, don't really care. MSNBC.com for occasional browsing. I find tv news deplorable in general.

I know that CNN is just as bad if not worse than FOX so I can pass them up. The NYT is a joke too.

I believe the WSJ, I still like the BBC although they too have been infected by their socialist overlords in the British govt. I like their TV news because they actually spend more than 30 seconds on a story unlike our national news.

Chicago tribune isn't too bad either.

I have found CNN to be the news station most representative of our collective world culture and the most free of religious zealotry and dogma.

(ok i'm going to make 2 understatements) The US is a bit out of touch with general world views. I'm reminded of the joke after the last presidential election and the Iraq war where it was stated that 49% of Americans agrees with 99% of the rest of the world. So true. So sad.

I kind of like the Trib. Yesterday I was sitting in the local library
reading the Trib. and what to my wondering eyes should appear but
a letter to the editor from my daughter's boyfriend. It was a well
reasoned argument opposing bringing back the draft. If we did he would be potential cannon fodder so I've decided he's a pretty smart kid. :)

CNN, NY Sunday Times, local news, Lehrer News Hour, and occasionally I go to this site for an interesting perspective on the middle east. www.debka.com.

Lou Dobbs. Used to like O'Reilly, but needed a break from him.

I get news from a lot of sources (Fox, CNN, CNBC, Reuters, Bloomberg, NPR, etc.). I don't ignore any news source because I don't like their bias or point of view, but I try to understand where they are coming from when listening or reading their news.

Is most news really THAT important anyway?

I couldn't care less about who murdered who and who adopted who.

Just tell me if it's going to rain today.

WSJ, The Economist.
