Worried sick over UPENN student

Maybe I'm over reacting a bit about the potential risks, but don't we all try to minimize risk and maximize gains?
When a daughter goes out into the world it is a different experience than for a son. None of us can foresee future events. But searching for negative stats, you'll surely find them. From an early age I allowed son and daughter to test the edges. Now that they are grown and well-acquainted with the world, I am never afraid for them.

At a young age we sent them overseas alone, to stay with our friends and experience something most will never see. Both are world travelers now, and are not intimidated. Life is for living, right?

OTH, I don't think you or your spouse want the urban experience for your child. UPENN is not right for you, but what does your daughter want? She is in one of the top schools in the world.

I looked at UPENN and COOPER sites to make sure I am not dreaming. All major institutions in this area have escorts and security unseen in my urban college days.

During my kid's 18-month experience at a southern college (NC), I had to take several calls about very unpleasant situations that were occuring on a daily basis. Very difficult for a girl with a diverse background. Eventually she decided to come back. It was her decision. The result was a very rich urban education in a medical field.
