Another word besides retirement

I think I will just simply say that, "I don't have to work for money, anymore". Short, simple, sweet and true. Who wants to work for money when they don't need to?

I usually say -
"I work for myself", or the more lenghty "I'm no longer defined by my occupation", or sometimes "I'm taking a break". After that I really don't care what anyone thinks. :)

Don't worry, in a couple years you won't mind saying the word 'retired'. I retired at 51 and for a year or two I felt embarrassed to say the word too. Congratulations on your partial retirement!

No one has mentioned Jethro Bodine yet, so how about "international playboy" or "double-naught spy"?

"Retired from the corporate world"?

Also consider "pretired". Mostly as a concept, and not as a good explanation of what you do. There's a guy that writes about his pretirement at pretired.org. It's basically what you might call semi-retirement. You get to the point where your investments pay your living expenses and you might do something fun for money. Or not.

We use "managing the family's interests" in these parts.
