I'm another very happy PenFed customer and the only language I've ever seen restricting gas bought at the pump applies to fuel for airplanes and boats.

Some Key points:
Starts June 20
No hit on credit report, same credit line with Citicorp card as AMEX
Scheduled payments on Amex card will have to be reset to a new card as AMEX card is dead on June 20 and new Citi Visa has new numbers.
Outstanding balances on AMEX do not need to be paid off
New card will arrive in mail during May

Cash back at Costco - but only once a year if it's like the Amex card.
You can get cash, or apply to Costco purchase. But you have to physically present your reward voucher at Costco to redeem it. The voucher is sent on the Feb statement - something like that.

So what happens to the Costco American Express, do they send us a cash back in Feb or in June? I'm confused because I will not be here to get the mail.

They are going to move Amex cash back balances to the new Visa card, so you will get it next February.

We got a mailing today from Costco & Citi about the new card. The 4% cash back for gas sounds great, but I was looking into the fine print.
The gas category is for "eligible gas" and that includes Costco gas and most gas stations, but excludes "superstores, supermarkets, convenience stores, and warehouse clubs other than Costco". Those purchases revert back to 1% cash back.
I personally buy gasoline for one car at Costco most of the time, but Costco in our area doesn't sell diesel, so I buy that at Kroger most of the time. I expect that falls under the super market category.

I would like to buy my gas at Costco since their prices are always the lowest, but no matter when I go to the store, every pump has 4-6 cars in line waiting. And when I compare it to the ARCO gas station down the street, it's usually only 3-5 cents per gallon cheaper. It's just not worth the hassle, at least in Southern California.

Also, the 3% cash back for travel and restaurants excludes "bakeries and certain restaurants/cafes inside departments stores, grocery or warehouse clubs".

According to the signs currently posted - any VISA, any debit/ATM card, cash, Costco cash cards, checks, EBT.

From Costco's web site
"Beginning June 20, the only accepted forms of payment at Costco warehouses in the U.S. will be Visa cards, cash, checks, debit/ATM cards, EBT and Costco Cash Cards. American Express Cards will no longer be accepted at Costco in the U.S. after June 19."

Maybe not, as many supermarkets have a separate vendor code and system for their fuel lanes. I think I used the old Costco AMEX card there before getting the PenFed card and still got the 3% reward for gas.

Yes, but VISA's purchase of the Amex portfolio probably included them taking on that liability.

The transition should be seamless other than having a new Visa card and having to toss the Amex card.
That said, I plant to keep all my old statements until I know that they have properly done the hand-off. No reason I should give up the pizza and beer that moneys buys me once a year.

I got mine in Feb.
Any rewards accrued after that will be moved to the new card, and I'll get them next Feb.

Yes I got mine in Feb too. Have you receive the new Costco VISA yet? I have not, I won't be here in June.
