Hey...now finally I have something to look forward to when I'm 60. :D

You might be able to start sooner than that, some the discounts are effective at age 50:LOL:

I've been experiencing the age thing in different ways:

Dollar General checked my ID when I purchased a bottle of wine (I know, weird...)

Golden Coral gives me the Senior discount, even though I don't yet qualify...

Some time I look like a Senior; and then some times I don't :)

I wish I could get a senior discount on my property taxes!

I find it easier to simply ask "Can I get a senior discount?"...

I never seem to get them unless I ask, despite my grey/white hair. Besides, it's more polite to ask even if you know they have a discount, IMO, because that way they don't ring it up without the discount.

Good starter list.

I would suggest confirming with each individual point of purchase before assuming this list is 100% accurate, as discounts may vary depending on location.

Glancing through the list, I noticed a few discrepancies from recent personal experiences.

  • In the Florida Keys, the Beall's store there had 15% off for 60+ on Mondays.

  • Dress Barn in Michigan has 10% off on Wednesdays for 62+.

20% off at Kmart for 50+ is significant. It might be worth it to buy some groceries there.

I was at Chick-fil-a this morning. Ordered coffee with a burrito. I usually order a senior coffee. It's free! Why did I forget to do it this morning:confused: Sometimes it's hard to admit you're a senior, even to yourself I suppose.

Thanks for the list, DFW_M5! I always look for and ask for 'senior' discounts just about everywhere I go. I've been doing that since I turned 50 and got an AARP card. I always get the senior discount on my coffee at Burger King (.49) and McDonalds (.80).....both with free refills!

Plus I ALWAYS ask for the senior and/or AARP discount for hotels and car rentals. I have only been 'carded' one time....the desk clerk asked to see my AARP card and said actual age didn't matter. We're leaving on vacation on Friday, and by applying senior and AARP discounts, I'm saving just over $300 on 14 of 16 nights of hotel stays.

One resort that we're only spending 2 nights at doesn't give ANY discounts, although when we stayed there for 5 nights on our Christmas vacation in 2010, they gave us a free upgrade to a very large suite and tickets to several things that we wanted to do and see!

I LOVE senior discounts, and I'm looking forward to getting even more in about a month and a half when I hit 55!!!

I always ask "What is your senior discount?" I was a bit taken aback at Whataburger when I ordered a hamburger. The lady immediately asked if I wanted a senior drink. OK.. sure.... it seems they don't charge for a senior drink.

Life is good.

Cook County, Illinois gives senior discount.

Also check your utilities. Some offer discount for seniors (65+).

Sometimes you get them without asking.

I must admit that I was irritated several months ago when I bought dinner at Subway for my daughter and me and they gave me -- without asking -- the senior discount. According to the list it starts at 60....alas, I have a few years before I turn 60. Sigh.
