Give me a museum and I'll fill it. (Picasso) Give me a forum ...
So i'm still hanging in there waiting to file my returns pending a pair of 1099's from emigrantdirect and ingdirect. Closed both accounts this year, so I anticipated some problems given that they want you to log in and download the 1099's electronically. Called them both last month and was assured they'd be mailed to me by 1/31.
Of course I didnt receive them.
Now on calling, Emigrant says they're having trouble locating ANY account information for me, so they want me to send them a clear text email with fun stuff like my social security number, DOB, etc in it so their "back room people" can look up my account info.
ING is even better. Guy wants me to use my PIN to access the information...however since I dont have an account with them anymore, I dont have a working PIN. Sooo...he's going to send me one to use on the account I no longer have. Apparently they have NO WAY to just send a copy of a 1099 to the address of record without the customer first doing something requiring a PIN. But what he COULD see is that the account says a tax form was NOT required/generated.
So heres a good question: if they have no account information for me, dont send me 1099's, then say they cant in fact do so...whats my recourse? I most definitely had enough in both accounts last year to generate around 500-600 in interest and therefore a 1099.
CFB...who is learning quickly that there ARE downsides to dealing with penny-ante internet based money market companies... or at least to not get caught in the catch-22 of closing accounts that only give information electronically through online account access...
