I trust Bush not to throw me in prison for being a Christian.  China has done just that to their citizens.  I don't agree with everything President Bush does, but he is easier to live with than a government that violently persecutes people for their beliefs.

That's because you are a Christian. Would you feel the same way if you were a Muslim?  Have you demonstrated against the current administration? It is easier to have the outlook that we are so much better if you are not one of the minorities that are out of favor with the government or doing something to actively oppose its agenda.

Do I think the US government is as bad as China?  No. Do I think we are some shining beacon on how a government should treat minorities and dissidents?  No.

Wow - we aspire to so much: "hey - at least Bush isn't as bad as China". Have our expectations really sunk so low?
