I've noticed some characters try to place a penny of so above the sitting bid. I usually just both look at the days trading range, and pick a size to bid for, or if the ask is OK and the size is adequate I just hit the ask. What I might lose in points I usually gain in commission savings.

I have all I want now anyway.

Of course, I could but it would cost me an extra $100. I mean I might as well buy a couple of thousand from CFB, for the generous price of $23.

I got Schwab's StreetSmart which shows me level 3 quotes, so now I amuse myself by pretending I am day trader and trying to save a few pennies on execution. Don't tell me it is pointless to save 1/2% on 11 year bond like security, it isn't the money it is the principal of the thing!!!

Alright, you've got me over a barrel. I'll drop my pants to make the deal.

$22.50. But you'll have to take 4000 shares.

Moron. What is so hard to understand about something that is basically an I-bond with better returns and a smidge of credit risk?

I think of ISM/OSM as my security blanket.

No kidding. May I translate his article? "I dont understand this, and it'd be too much trouble to figure it out, so its not what I recommend".

I noticed that SLM corrected their February overpayment in my brokerage account today. Reversed the incorrect payment and credited the new, lower payment. Same for everyone else?

Yes, indeedy. I can't quite seem to make mine match up to any of the CPI increases
though. My Feb payment came to 7.124 cents per share, which I'd calculate
corresponds to an inflation of about 1.37%, which is kinda (but not quite) the
Oct'05-Oct'06 increase.

At par, my payout was 3.42% annualized. I expected 3.35% annualized. I think the difference is that I used 12 equal months and this period was actually 31 days. I'm not going to that detail.......

The payout does correspond to the Oct 05 to Oct 06 CPI-U increase.

I figured they would get around to correcting their boo-boo. I also assume that if the error had occurred the other way and we had been underpaid, it would have taken a class action lawsuite and many years to resolve!

Re: Seems ISM is taking a bit of a beating this week...

Eh they had to take .11% of it to pay the people to go in and correct the mistake.

Vanguard seems to have just adjusted the original transaction as though nothing ever happened.

Yeah, that explains it.

So the per-share dividend for Feb '07 is:

$25 * (31/365) * (0.0205 + 201.8/199.2 - 1) = 7.124 cents.

Looks like some much bigger dividends coming up over the next few months !

At par:

Feb 15 through March 14 -- 4.02% annual rate
March 15 through April 14 - 4.59% annual rate
Arpril 15 though May 14 ---- 4.12% annual rate

I dislike inflation so it's hard for me to hope for higher ISM payouts!

Yeah, unless you're 100% in ISM, that'd be a bit counter productive....

Speaking of computer glitches ...

Just checked bond prices at www.bloomberg.com/markets/rates/index.html,
and they are showing yield on the 5-yr TIPS as 3.08% (price about 97).
This is as of 1902 hrs. Other Treasuries and TIPS durations seem normal.

Did all the people on this board sell their TIPS after we demonstrated that
ISM/OSM is a clearly superior investment ?

Surely Tuesday's action hasn't led to widespread sentiment that inflation
will be negligible between now and 4/15/2011 ?

I don't think anyone demonstarted that. It can't be demonstrated, becasue TIPS have 0 risk and ISM and OSM are A rated securities with unknowable but definitely non-zero risk.

If I had enough money I would use TIPS completely in preference to Sallie Mae. I use part ISM to stretch for yield.

I was half joking. But the 5yr TIPS definitely showed a 3+% yield at about 1am
last night at Bloomberg, dated 19:02 o'clock. They're showing typical 2+% levels
now. Odd.
