Just gave my notice; a little over four months until my 20 October date. Will be interesting to see how i am treated over next four months. Of course, if my house sells sooner, I will move up the date; all financial conditions have been met save the sale of my house.

After 19 years, I gave 5 months notice and everyone was appreciative. I spent a lot of time up front helping with the transition (documenting, transition, interviewing, etc). The last few weeks were a little odd when I wasn't invited to meetings I would normally attend. However, that is part of the transition process and fully expected. It worked out great, enjoy!

Then I came home and told DW that I'll never have to take another shower again She was only partially amused!

Had planned for earlier, but learned I have to be currently employed to get stock awards at end of July . So, I have a nice boss ... I'm doing 50% time until then, mon-tues one week, mon-wed the next, yay!

So will exit august 1. A bit nervous as expected ... here's the boring money stuff.

Savings: $2.6 megabuck
house: we own it, worth a bit north of $1 megabuck
SS: eventually $60K/yr if we hold off til 70
micropension: $6k/yr
ages: me 60, Liz 64
inheritance: likely >400k within 8 years (not counting on it)

Anyway, we are pretty cheap dates although we will do a bit of travel. Daisy is glad she will have her humans around more often!

Sold the business today that we owned for 14 years.
Too overwhelmed with emotions at this time!

Travelling now to spend the weekend with our son in Kansas City. Will take it slow for now and decide how to fill our days after working 12+ hours/day for so long. Eating healthy, regular exercise, painting the house and travel are some of the things we will start with.

So happy for you all! I remember having a countdown app on my phone and looking at it multiple times/day. I also counted how many days were left that I had to actually commute in to the office as my commute was by far the most awful thing about my j*b.

So nice to be talking about "two to three week road trip," rather than 13.5 days, and then to work the next day!

Hopefully we won't be envying your chilling.... Two separate domestic trips planned between our last days in the office (7/28) and the Eclipse, then leaving for 8 relatively unstructured weeks in Peru...

My pension system has acknowledged my paperwork, and I just dropped my letter of resignation into my boss' incoming work box, with October 31 as my last day of employment.

I AM GOING TO RETIRE AND I GET TO FLEE THIS DUMPSTER FIRE OF CORRUPT DYSFUNCTION THAT IS MY WORKPLACE!!! YAYYYYYY!!!

I have a restrained Mona Lisa smile (not a smirk) that I suspect will broaden as I pass the remaining landmarks. I am so close to the light at the end of the tunnel that there is fresh air wafting across my face, which makes the pervasive stench of work that much more intolerable. Turning in my letter today is the current step. Next step (in August, I hope), will be to see my name included on a list of employee changes which will go to the Board for approval. I really hope my job will be posted shortly after that, so if an internal candidate is appointed, we can work on training and turnover here and there for a couple of months instead of the meager three days we get with an outside hire. In either case, it won't be MY problem.

My countdown stands at 59 more days at work (which is spread over 110 calendar days); or 16 weeks; or only 4 more paychecks (we are paid monthly).

It has been a long slog, and I will be in the last quarter of the year for Class of 2017, but I will get there. (I am looking forward to contributing to the "What did you do today" thread.)
