Anyone ever hear of Hearthside Grove, or places similar to it?

After FIREing earlier this year one of the things I wanted to do was take up camping again. For a couple of reasons that did not happen.

One of the reasons was, while sleeping in a tent, enduring mosquitos, bad weather, antiquated facilities, etc. was fine when I was a teen, now the DW and I will need a little more comfort in order to enjoy the outdoors.

I saw a reference to Hearthside Grove in a story in the WSJ this week and was very intrigued by its concept. While Hearthside appears to be a bit out of my price range, I really like the idea of a place that provides some of the comforts of home while getting outdoors.

There is an app called RV Parky for both a droid and iOS that shows RV parks, along with info about hookups, amenities, pricing, and reviews.

Back when we were full-time RVing, I use rvparkreviews.com the most.

Thanks for your input so far.

I've been looking during commercial breaks in the baseball playoff game. I haven't found anything yet, but I'm sure I just need to do a more focused search.

Campendium is another web directory for campgrounds of all types-public lands, private resorts, RV or tent camping. It doesn’t look like Hearthside has been reviewed yet on this site, but there are several others in the area.

There are many sources for RV park information.

We purchased a very small interest in a member owned campground in the Blue Ridge Mountains in 1995. For $420 per year in service charges, we camp for free 14 nights per month, 12 months out of the year. Our RV stays there in storage for about $1.00 a night, and the campground moves it on site whenever we are coming. As far as I can tell, this is the best deal going.

Our RV park has 300 campsites, a huge common building, a large commercial kitchen, 2 pools, tennis courts and a 2 acre lake. Other RV parks are mostly second class to our facilities. The mountain above the park is 4500' and the Appalachian Trail runs on top. The NE GA region is incredibly beautiful with so many things to do, and it's just an hour from the edge of Atlanta suburbs.

There are a number of member/owners that have two memberships, and they stay in the park year round--total cost of living $840 a year including utilities, cable tv and WIFI. They do have to move their RV's every 2 weeks, however. It's hard to beat that.

I live fairly close to this place. 30 miles or there abouts. Ive never been in the campground but the city is nice. It's in a medium sized city, the campground is off a busy two lane highway that runs through the city.

It's a beautiful touristy type area, lots of lakes, a number of nice resteraunts and a casino close by. Plenty of day trip sites to see. But all summer the city is extreamly busy, and I'd hate to have to drive a 40 ft RV through town.

Personally I'd rather have privacy and quiet for camping, but that's just me. I'm more of a backpacker type.

We just returned after 5 days in my fifth wheel trailer in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Northeast Georgia. I cannot tell you how beautiful the region north and east of Atlanta is with mountains going up to almost 5,000 ft.

We have 300 campsites in our member owned campground, and our facilities put this place to shame. I was sitting in our clubhouse last night watching my 7 year old granddaughter assemble a puzzle with a group of elderly ladies--just like her mother did 20 years ago. Our timber frame clubhouse is 50' x 125' with a huge 40' tall rock fireplace. Any night, 50 or more people will be playing cards, table games and the men are shooting pool. It's like going back to more simple times.

Class A's are meant to travel from place to place, and to pay $250K to $400K to purchase a campsite is a waste. For 1/4th the price of a Class A, they could have a fifth wheel that's just as roomy and often just as nice inside as most motorhomes. And I couldn't imagine the fellow Class A owners would be as down to earth as the regular people we meet at our inexpensive campground in the mountains.
