This was a very interesting article. I was surprised to see that the percentage of couples with two salaries was only 51.8%. I always thought it was much higher than that. Adjustment to living with less spending is much easier than what people would expect.

The operative word may be "salaries." The next sentence mentions one of the reasons for leaving is to tend to their own businesses. So there may be more two "income" couples.
