Sounds too good to be true...

Well, if you use coupons on brand names, I guess you'd "save" money. Unfortunately the brands probably cost at least 20-30% more.

I enjoy doing math in my head, and I'm still idealistic enough to be amazed by the games that manufacturers play with package sizes. It used to be cheaper by the bulkier, but now it's not uncommon to find lower cost-per-ounce prices on the smallest sizes. It changes from week to week, which means that I'm probably dividing dollars into ounces a couple dozen times each trip. And when I can use a coupon on the smaller sizes...

Our best bargains come from closeouts and the broken rack. When you can decipher the ingredients to determine that the generic is no worse than the brand name, the savings start to accumulate.

Our kid clips food coupons in exchange for 50% of the savings. Math skills have improved considerably...
