Get rid of dryer sheet reference

Continuing the explanation, someone on some forum somewhere made this photo as a reply to someone. CFB first used it here in reply to a verbose troll, later followed by various photos of food on animals' heads including a cat with bacon on its head, a cat with a lime rind helmet and some ERForum pets, particularly Martha's dachshunds (?) with banana peels on their heads. After running out of food-headed animal photos, kayak photos became prominent replys to an argumentative thread that had started running in circles.

I am sure its appearance in this thread is in tribute to CFB and his triumphant—if brief—return.

And by the way, some of us have lost interest in early retirement and financial topics. Perhaps we should adopt topics from other popular forums on the internet. Maybe we can talk about video games, politics or European royalty.

Or bread making. Yeah, I've got some poolish fermenting right now. So far I've just used straight dough, but I'm trying to get more flavor. I also have lots of work to do on shaping and knowing when the rise and proof are finished.

I suggest we chuck a few of the existing topical forums in favor of one each for marijuana legalization/grow houses, granny porn and bred-making/homebrewing.

It's all in good, clean fun, you know. Some of us crusty veterans have had these same discussions ad nauseum, so threads such as these take a detour pretty early on...

Just have a bacon sandwich, put a pancake on your head, and give a hearty "heh heh", and it'll all be good...
Well said, HFWR. I think you're exactly right.

CaseInPoint, is it just that you don't see the humor (and extreme irony for most of our members) in the dryer sheets ratings? Do you not think the owner/founding members (of whom I am not one) are allowed to have a little fun with their enterprise? I'm not really sure (not as a moderator) what you find so bothersome about it.
I really don't find it bothersome. It's just the same old joke you hear 10,000 times that eventually dries out.

Dear Case in Point:

After careful consideration of your suggestion, we decline. If you care to find out whether the moderators are indeed timid, you are free to contact us directly by PM. You could start with me.

Dear Mr. Gumby,

Will do.

If the dryer sheet reference is removed, I swear I will start transferring wet clothes directly from washer to dryer and run my electric bill up to the sky again.

Hey, Jim, I do seem to remember something about the European royalty....
And thanks for the kayak reminder, too. Forgot all about that.
Dang, some of you old folks have purty good memories, all things considered. ;)

How about something totally foolish, wild and frivolous?

Like Psssst - Wellesley?

:D Hmmmm?

heh heh heh -

I came back just to say: "Don't let the newbs mess with my dryer sheets, man!'

:greetings10:

I'm gonna have to fix a bigger pot of chicken and dumplin's...there's a lot of folks droppin' in for dinner...:greetings10:

Oh yeah. May I suggest bacon for a garnish?

Ok this is a half serious question. My old roommate left box of dryers sheets in the laundry room. So last night for the first time ever I threw one in the dryer with the clothes. (Yes I did think of the forum while doing so) What exactly are these things suppose to do and would recycling them actually be possible?

Oh and CFB go back to lurking, only one ex-Intel marketing puke allowed per board.

clif, if you live where gnats (aka flying teeth) are a problem, dryer sheets work great to rub down your arms and legs. Around here, outdoor weddings always include dryer sheets as "wedding favors" to tuck in your shirt collar or wave around your face. Ugh--hate the litte buggers.

I also put dryer sheets in with the linens for our RV and our boat (I use those gigantic ziptop bags for storage) to keep them from getting musty.

Thanks for the link so they are suppose to make clothes smell better... Well now I know. As for the other uses I think I am going to pass.

They are supposed to reduce static. They make me sneeze, even when I walk past someone's house who has their dryer running and vented to the outside.

Ye gods! a random post from this thread showed up on a search unrelated to FIRE. Just popped in to get a closer look. All I can suggest is to try using a used dryer sheet to clean your screen and read up on the FAQs to get a sense of the DIY sometimes playful culture of the place. If the shoe doesn’t fit.... Wear boots!

May have been funny at first but I suspect they are now used to reinforce the dominant culture of the board-ie LBYM bacon and frugality.

There now, that's better.

Exactly right. And there's also the aspect of providing a support group for a core group of old-time members.

Nothing really wrong with having a retirement forum for people who are extremely frugal, but it would be a good idea just to say it in the description of the forum.
