I've never asked people why they have children (painful plus).

For the same reason you give blood? For us, we give blood because we can and because fleeting discomfort on our part can save the life of someone else. That seems like a fair trade-off to me.

Got a call from the CBC today asking me when I was going to donate blood and I explained the situation. If I do donate marrow I guess I won't be donating blood until November at the earliest.
