Dental implant

Well, I'm wintering in the Yuma, so it only takes about 30 minutes to run over there.

Not for everybody, just throwing it out there for consideration.
It's a great point to add to the thread.

If you're going to do some slow travel somewhere anyway, why not to go a place that has world-class services like this for 20% of the cost? Or to look at it another way, you can either have an implant, or you can have two vacations and an implant without spending any more.

I agree. I'd be really cautious about getting recommendations but I know that plenty of people who are within easy travel distance of Mexico get dental work done there. You need to keep in mind, though, that Stuff Happens (see Texas Proud's story of his wife's multiple visits) and complications may require extra trips. In the case of genuine malpractice, you'll have little or no recourse if the work was done outside of the US.

DW was about 10k all in for extraction, bone grafts and two implants. And about 12 months total time. Very happy with result.

Also remember.... not all dentist are good at it...

My BIL had and implant and it was done pretty poorly... had to go to another dentist to remove the bad implant and do it right...

We went to a specialist who teaches... cost us more money but I feel like it is worth the extra dollars since it is health related...

DH was the first of the 2 of us to need an implant, about 8 years ago. I work in insurance and I'd seen plenty of large claim reports, including malpractice, and I pictured all kinds of nasty things that could go wrong when the subject was first broached. We got lucky. I ran the idea past a friend from our church who's a dentist and his face lit up and he said they'd been doing them for years. He answered a lot of my questions and made me more comfortable with the idea. Our regular dentist at the time referred us to the oral surgeon we've both used.

By the time I needed implants, I'd switched to the dentist from church and told him I wanted to use the oral surgeon DH had. He and the surgeon didn't know each other but he started going to the continuing ed sessions the oral surgeon was doing and they started referring business to each other. I like our dentist; he's curious and a problem-solver. He's about my age (late 50s/early 60s) so I hope he doesn't retire for a long time!
