Getting FIREd up

I could make 50% more if I commuted to SF. No thanks

DS negotiated 2 days in office / 3 telecommute and took a salary reduction for it. But he has a 12 yo (step but ours), soon to be 3 yo, and 6 mo

Education gives you bargaining chips

As I read that story.. I was thinking how short of hours they guy worked. I've heard stories like this many times.

Below actually happened... not as touching though.

One day at lunch when I was working and the boss was out with us I asked how this other employee got to work 30 hours a week. The boss noted the is cost a lot. You have to give up 25% of pay, vacation time accrued more slowly, etc.
One of the engineers with us laughed and noted I could get a big hourly pay increase if I switched to 30 hour weeks. I asked if you could work 3 10 hours days. I should have asked if 2 15 hour days a week would work...

Occasionally I dress up (ie wear something other than shorts) and my kids scream "no daddy!! you aren't getting a job are you?!?!".

Biggest endorsement for "Best Dad Ever" one can get. :)

No way I'd trade thousands of hours of my time every year just for tens of thousands of dollars.
