Well done indeed Harley. Really excellent news, just shows what can be done. :D

Thanks for posting your health background and targets and for keeping us posted. Now that you have passed very this important milepost, do keep doing what you have been doing and it will get even better. Remember that good health is a marathon, not a sprint.

Good for you Harley. Glad to hear that lifestyle really can reverse/improve things so meds are no longer necessary. I haven't gotten to the point that I need meds yet, but I will honestly say that I have been to lazy about my health until six or eight months ago.

I finally dropped another pound (230 now) after a long plateau. I had been running/jogging a lot before a I went to the states and europe a few weeks ago, but my legs always hurt. I got a book on running (by Jeff Galloway) which advised the same as I had heard here shortly before my trip, to have rest days between running. He also advises that runners should iinclude walk breaks in their run, so I've been running every other day, and running 4 min walking 1 min. I find that I can go a lot further without tiring out, and I don't hurt like I did when I am finished.

I also read Younger Next Year...good book for learning about the processes that are going on in aging and exercise to slow it. Learned a lot of things I never knew, but at the same time, enjoyed a fun book. Bottom line: like Alan said, its a marathon, not a sprint, and ya gotta work at it every day.

Oh, got my bloood checked a couple days ago. LDL 129, HDL 55, Triglycerides 48. I need to work on the LDL a little, it seems. It not bad, but not optimal. All the other numbers were fine...with my weight, I was worried about glucose and metabolic syndrome, but doc said just keep exercising and don't worry.

Well done Rambler. The blood work must be very encouraging and I'm sure the weight will slowly move down if you keep up the good work.

I also think Younger Next Year is an excellent read with lots of good advice given in a very readable format.

Unfortunately I sprained my ankle on Monday (not exercising, just walking home from the car) so I haven't exercised all week and been working long hours on a project. Need to get back to it as soon as I can.

Treading water. Not too horrible, I suppose, for eating a bunch of Halloween candy leftovers. Holliday season is coming up, so unless I make a concerted effort here, I won't make any progress towards my goal.

Recovered some of last week's excesses but next 2 weeks I'm away on business followed by vacation.

Didn't really weigh myself this week. I went to the doctor last Friday (see previous ecstatic post). But Saturday my throat was sore, and by Saturday night I as sick as a dog. I swear I caught this nasty cold at the doctor's office.

I went in again yesterday for some quality cough syrup since I hadn't slept in 2 days. When they weighed me it came up 234. So either I gained 11 lbs in 4 days (probably mostly snot :p), or the scale was off. I'll try to get back on track for next week. Gonna go overdose on cough syrup and crash. See you tomorrow.

I hate to admit this, but having a salad for dinner (with low-fat dressing) seems to have a high correlation with my losing a bit of weight. I'm somewhere around 161.

Down a pound this week to 229...ran and walked a total of 40 miles this past week, 30 or so of which were during time designated as exercise time. Started back with the weight machines today after laying off for about 7 months...we'll see if that helps.

I'm getting to be remarkably consistent, though that's not a great thing. Still, after last week where I didn't have the energy to do some of my normal workouts, at least I didnt go up in weight. My shoulder separation is healing and feels pretty good, so I can't really use that as an excuse any more.

'nuther-one bites the dust...228 this week. Only about 20 miles of exercise this past week due to business trips getting in the way of things...not bad I guess, but would like to do better. Really wanted to break the 100kg barrier before Christmas...might be tough with only 5 weeks to go and my slow rate of return. Will keep plugging away at it.

131 lbs this a.m.
Just walked in the door & checked the markets. Tonight it's comfort food all the way - grabbed my grandmother's ol' cast iron skillet - fried chicken, cream gravy, mashed potatoes, biscuits, & green beans....the hell with it all!

I don't understand the huge weight gain while I was sick. I did sort of go a little crazy after the good report from the doc. But not that crazy. Anyway, back down to the good zone. I'm trying to figure out how to continue exercising now that the weather has gotten so cold. I was really enjoying the walking. But out here at the shore we have 20-40 mph winds constantly, which increases the wind chill a lot. I need to get into weight lifting, it's supposed to be great for diabetes. But I hate doing it.

Harley, that's a significant swing in weight over a week's period. maybe it was water weight?

I'm still at my starting weight, however I have just finished week 5 with my personal trainer. It has been worth every cent that I have spent. Today I had my body fat measured - I am down from 29% to 27.6%. It's a good start, and my goal is to be at 26.0% in 4 weeks time. Overall it is a good result, however I do know that I need to increase my cardio if I want to see bigger gains.

Well, there's the holiday for me. We went to MIL's vacation house for Thanksgiving, and when we do, we always get junk food. Maybe I should rethink that. :) I've had good workouts the last two days, and the weight today was much better than the mind-blowing 202.6 I had on Monday.

Hey, no one dredged this thread up last week. No fair.

Phew - very pleased not to have put on a load of weight after being away and not eating healthy.

Somehow I missed posting for 2 weeks, and they have been 2 very, very bad weeks! We just returned from a cruise over Thanksgiving, and despite running 3 miles one day, and doing aerobics for over an hour the other day, I am up to...130#!!!!!!!!!!:p:(:(

Majorly bummed about this. I've been working quite a bit more than usual lately, which of course lends itself to eating worse and exercising less. Hopefully I will get myself back on track this week and will have better results to post next week.

Not so bad, considering. Time to get srious again.

Back up to 230, missed a few days at the gym due to thanksgiving, and of course ate way more than I should for the holiday. Took the girls to Disneyland on Friday. All the gym exercise must be helping because I didn't get as exhausted as in the past, even though we stayed longer. My back hurt a bit from standing in line (I can walk all day, but standing relatively still for a couple hours can kill my back), but even so, not as bad as I remember from before.
