I have decided to lose a few more pounds and get more 'fit'. I have to accept that as a small-boned 5'3" person, I really don't need to eat very much.

Finally exercising a little again. Been walking 2-3 miles/day when the weather is decent at the beach. Back in the townhouse this week so I'm trying to use the little gym in the clubhouse. The aerobics are easy enough but I need to start doing some weights. I'm just a little worried. Last time I was lifting I hurt my shoulder and had pain in it for over a year.

Start light and slow. Get a personal trainer to instruct you on proper form. Oh, and did I say start light and slow? Build up a little bit at a time over a long time, and you should be OK. Good job on the weight by thee way.

Good job, Dude!
I'm like Alan, plateau city.
158 today.
Quitting smoking is a very good thing to do. I finally kicked the habit for good a number of years ago.

I'm hoping the fat percentage isn't a low outlyer this week, because it is the lowest it has been since prior to my surgery. Activity has been ramping up. Not "supposed to" be out of my sling yet, but I haven't worn it in a day or two.

Last Saturday I did some TKD sparring (not WTF-style: light contact and we use our fists), for which I wore a sling. That was fun. I've been doing the exercise bike, kicking with ankle weights, abdominal work, and I've been doing what I can in some martial arts classes.

Looking forward to Laurence's report on P90x.

Quitting smoking is a very good thing to do. I finally kicked the habit for good a number of years ago.

Keep on, keepin' on........:)

I'm about to enter "Stage Two" of my "physique reclamation" plan......

Stage One was from January 1st to now. It was pretty simple, all I did was:

1)THINK about what and when I was eating (eliminated late night snacking)

2)Substitute fresh brewed iced tea for diet soda ( was a diet soda addict)

3)Drink a LOT more water.

4)Daily fiber supplement

Stage Two involves getting regular exercise. It seems I am doing things in reverse, but I have been in too many of these cycles where I go "weekend warrior" and they throw it in when I get hurt or eat a whole cheese pizza or whatnot......

So, now exercise regiment starts. The fact I lost 17 pounds or so WITHOUT exercise is encouraging. I have a picture of me from 1988 when I weighed 194 pounds, that is my motivation.

I know the whole trap, where you work out, get hungrier than when you didn't, eat too many calories, etc. However, I USED to be a long distance runner, having finished 5 marathons and over 150 road races, so I do know a little about physical conditioning........;)

Wish me luck........

In anticipation of Lent starting today, I went on the Mardi Gras diet and packed on 4 lbs. in the last few weeks. I'm starting the ecclesiastic diet, I guess :)

177.5 Nov 2008
180.5 Dec 26, 2008
a few holiday parties got me! :p

181 Dec 31, 2008 - weight is peaked :D
179 Jan 7, 2009
179 Jan 21  food portion control plan working. Started using daily fiber supplements for hunger control.
178 Jan 28 :) steady as she goes...
179 Feb 6 (late reporting)
179 Feb 11 - need to start some exercise now that portion control is mastered. step by step...
177 Feb 18
180 Feb 25 - all that imaginary cheese pizza got me!

Short Term Goal - 170 lbs and maintaining all through 2009
Long Term Goal - 165 lbs for 2010
High school weight 135 lbs senior year, running track

Keep on, keepin' on........:)

Good luck!

My routine, if you can call it "routine", is walking/biking 3-4 days a week, and resistance training two days a week. Marathon-level training intensity is, in my view, excessive for general fitness purposes, and definitely increases one's risk of injury...

I ran my first marathon at 19, and my last at 25, so no worries. I have NO interest in being a competitive runners. I am starting walking this week, and will slowly add cycling and jogging. I belong to the Y because DW's company reimburses us 50% of our membership.

Never been much of a weight trainer. When I ran CC and track in college they kept us out of the weight rooms, they had us do circuit training instead.........which made us WISH we were shotputters.........

I used to bike competitively, I rode criteriums and road races. My sister was a pretty good masters cyclist. She was more into it than me. Now I have a hybrid Trek which is perfect for me. Of course, I still have my Italian leather shorts and jerseys, so when I lose enough weight I may be able to LOOK like a cyclist again........

199.5 today, 3 lbs down and under 200! (just barely).

Started P90X training last Thursday and I'm limping around now. It's really fun but you are definitely sore the next day. I hope to start a separate thread this weekend after finals are through. Definitely the toughest workout I've ever done, and I've trained and completed several triathlons and other road races.

2/25 200 lbs same as last week.

I think I hit my plateau. It's going to require more than 2 hours of tennis once a week.

Oh well I least I'm not gaining any.

I've had a rough winter. Have decided to lose some more weight and do more exercise.

Today (25 Feb) 137.

126# (up one pound from 2 wks ago). Feeling better, but not yet 100%. Hope to try exercising this weekend. Right now I think it would make me cough too much.

125#.

Bronchitis is slowly getting better. I worked out for the first time tonight in 2 1/2 wks. I only did about 40 minutes of dance cardio, but it felt good! I only coughed a little bit. Can't wait til I am back to my normal health!

I havent posted here in a long while. I have been dealing with the emotional and physical ups and downs of a lower back injury (L4-5, S-1) discs. I am starting to "fill in" again because of my lack of core exercising. Does anyone know how I can shape up without aggrevating my darn sciatic and other aches and pains?

235.5 today, first time since before the holidays. Two pound drop since last week, but at the pace I've had since after the holidays, it'll be Christmas before I get back to me pre-holiday weight again. Target is 198 on Aug 31, otherwise I owe a buddy a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue. If I lose, I'll have the Johnnie Walker Blue$$$.

Go see a physical therapist. This can be tricky and getting professional guidance is your best bet (FYI, I am biased since I am a PT, LOL).

02/25/2009 194.2 finally back at it again

Thanks Simple Girl. I have been the rounds with Physical Therapy. I have been trying to cycle, but took a couple of falls trying to learn to ride clipped in. I have a personal trainer, but our workouts just seem to aggrevate my pains. The only thing I seem to be able to do is aquatics fitness, without aggrevating my pains. But, I really want to workout again which gives me the best results.
