Well worth it! We eat the Blue Bunny no sugar added varieties. Yummy and a great reward for being good all day.

I also like the Weight Watchers chocolate covered ice cream on a stick. (Portion control is real easy )

Heh...heh...you figured us out...DH PACKS the ice cream into that 1/2 cup! (Oh, and maybe it's a little rounded over the top, too!) We've been getting away with going slightly over the portion control so far...

Controlled cheating is not a problem, as long as you don't let it become a regular occurrence. My suggestion? Buy slightly smaller cups and continue to "cheat."

Ice cream...my downfall. :nonono:
I had real gelato in Italy, and I'm hooked. I bought a bottle of Lemoncello in Capri and am going to try to make homemade gelato limone. My web searches tell me gelato is lower in fat than American ice cream, but the numerous egg yolks used in the traditional recipe are a cholesterol alert.
I'm searching for a recipe that uses something else as a thickener...no luck so far. :(

I was hooked on gelato in Italy as well. Can't seem to find true gelato here in the U.S.

I can locally, as there are several Italian American communities nearby. :D
However...I am seeking a lower cholesterol version. My searches tell me the ingredient mix is regional, and there suposedly is a Sicilian version made without the eggs.
I have the ice cream machine, I have the Limoncello...if I find a healthy recipe, I will post it on the recipes thread here.

Yippee! Still maintaining in a range a I never realistically thought I could even get to...hanging out at my college weight. DH is also continuing with similar success: 154 at 5'8". This is UNDER his high school weight of 155#.

Loving our new way of eating!

I was hooked on gelato in Italy as well. Can't seem to find true gelato here in the U.S.

Angelo Brocato's has been around forever and is really popular among local Sicilians in New Orleans. Might be worth giving it a try if you are ever in town:

Angelo Brocato's Italian Ice Cream & Italian Desserts: Home Page

"For the true connoisseur, Brocato's offers a complete selection of "gelato" (Italian for ice cream) featuring all natural imported Sicilian flavorings from chestnut to moka to amaretto. "

Then again, maybe Sicilian gelato is different from northern Italian gelato, just as their other cuisine is different. I have never been to Angelo Brocato's, because I am afraid of getting hooked on their gelato which is supposed to be out of this world. Too fattening for me, most likely. Venezia's restaurant is nearby, and after their great Sicilian food I have been tempted to walk down to Angelo Broccato's for gelato but that would just be too much.

Well, I'm basically where I was 2 weeks ago. After eating out on Thursday night and then ordering in on Saturday (and eating too much both times, including a piece of 5 layer chocolate cake on Thursday), that's not too bad. Still, I was a little disappointed that I was a pound heavier today than yesterday -- just because I like to be light on Wednesdays.

I went for a run on Monday night. I'm not much of a runner, and haven't gone running in many months. Did 2 miles around the neighborhood at somewhere around a 9 min/mile pace including some uphill sprints, and I wasn't hurting the next day, which is a plus.

I'm feeling good, which is what matters more than what the scale says.

Seeing the fruits of this week's efforts, but a terrible start from June 15th with my stated goal in mind. Minimizing my dining out is still a struggle, but the continual focus on increasing my activity should help.

Found a local women's cycling group this week which should get me out there cycling more often. Heading down to San Diego for the 36th Annual Midnight Madness Bike Ride on Saturday. Wow, what a fun turnaround bike ride that will be with my new gal friend cyclist group!:greetings10:

Have a good week everyone!

Had a really crappy day at work today and didn't feel at all like exercising when I got home, but with my new low weight I felt I needed to so I did walk down to the gym and ran for 30 mins. Really pleased I did, I feel loads better now.

SG, great to see both you and your DH are hanging in there with your new exercise and eating regime, I'm sure you are feeling confident now about maintaining your new weights.

Kronk, I hope you feel encouraged enough by your run to do it more often. Don't try to do too much too fast.

NewLife, enjoy your bike ride this weekend and be sure to tell us about it next week.

Went to a potluck BBQ party this weekend and totally went nuts. Stomach hurt afterwards. Waiting for it to catch up to me, but instead, looks like I dropped another pound. Wow. It doesn't hurt that I weigh in on the morning after teaching my 1 1/2 hour dance class! We had about 20-25 people in class last night - fun and great energy!

Not much movement in the last few weeks. Last week, I did have 3 consecutive days under 195, which made me happy, but then I bloated back up again.

Minimal progress. My stated goal is out of reach now, but at least I am trying. Hoping my ramped up efforts on my cycling schedule will start to show.

Joining the women's cycling group last week seems to be giving me the encouragement I needed to be more consistent with my cycling. The 36th Annual Midnight Madness Bike Ride in San Diego, CA last Saturday nite was crazy fun. However, with over 3,000 riders of all types, it bogged down enough to make it a painfully slow ride (for me). But it was fun. Our group came to 11 riders and we all managed to stick together. Finished at 2:24am.:greetings10: Where else can you ride at the wee hours of the morning in shorts and tees? LOL

Heading out this afternoon with the gals in my cycling group to Puddingstone Lake for an 8-mile scenic ride around the lake!

Have a good week everyone!

Fantastic effort again SG, you are doing sooo well.

Newlife, Thanks for the update on your midnight bike ride. It sounds like you had a good time, and getting in some exercise as well.

I also had an excellent week, hitting the middle of my target range and down 9.5lbs from when I got back from England in May.

Woo-hoo! Anyone else notice the weight drop yet?

I've been getting lots of comments at work. We are going to see friends in a few weeks that haven't seen me in a year or two...that's gonna be fun!

:ROFLMAO: - no, I don't believe anyone has noticed my weight loss - it is a mere 5% of my total and certainly hasn't caused me to change my trousers size or anything. It was different back in 2002 when I lost 40lbs (19%) in 6 months and dropped down 2 sizes.

On the other hand, you have lost 10% which has got to be noticeable and draw some comments.

Ah, I didn't think of it that way, but I guess you are right. I just did the math, and DH has lost 10%, too (he's down 17#). We both look really different and want to keep it that way! And, our old shorts are falling off of us...what a trip!

That is great. Now, I normally hate shopping, but I confess that when I went shopping for clothes after I'd lost a load of weight I quite enjoyed it, strutting my stuff in the changing rooms etc

I also followed the advice I read somewhere and donated all my old clothes to complete that statement that I wasn't going back to how I'd been.

Alan...great job this week. You are doing well!
Simple Girl...well girl, you are just AWESOME! I remember in 2007, before my fall, visiting family, friends, and my co-workers my 55lbs loss. Gotta love those visits!

Yes, the San Diego bike ride at midnight was really fun. They have another ride in two weeks called BIKE THE BAY which takes the riders over Coronado Bay Bridge in San Diego. Cant make that one, but it is rumored to be fun!

The ride tonite with my women's cycling group around Puddingstone Lake was quite scenic and a wonderful way to end the day. Looks like I will be riding with them again bright and early Sunday morning. Sure hope all this cycling shows some results soon!

Have a great week everyone!
