Managed to stop the slide, but I'm away on business at present so always hard to eat and exercise right - so next week could be tough.

Keep going everyone, looks like some good progress being made by most folks (I won't mention SG -:nonono: )

Up one pound from last week; awareness is power. Met this inspiring guy on today's walk, I also look better from the front than the back:

Missed yesterday's post, but I weighed in at 249 lbs, holding steady.

After several days of larger portion sizes and no exercise, this was about all I could hope for.

Took the dog on a 1.5 hour hike today. Feel (and felt) fantastic to be outside moving again!

Definitely getting more cycling in now. The gals group is helping me with consistency. I've been a bit weak on my eating habits. Imagine my progress if I ate better. Getting weighed and measured on Monday for the months' progress.

Have a good week everyone!

Well that's just crazy. I definitely have lost some, but not 4# in one week. I think we can safely say there are some water weight fluctuations going on here...but I'll take it! :D

Hmmmm....just noticed I rebounded down 2 weeks after my last vacation weekend, too. Weird!

This was a post-vacation week. I'm surprised the weight jump isn't bigger. I suppose my water percentage is lower, causing my weight to be lower and my fat percentage to read higher.

After a decadent weekend involving Mexican food, cheese and crackers, chocolate tort, Peanut Butter M&Ms, chocolate peanut butter brownies, pound cake, Reece's Peanut Butter cups, chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate muffins, chocolate ice cream, and Snicker's ice cream, it is a wonder I'm not 5 pounds heavier. Oh, and I didn't work out for 5 days either.

I resumed my workout routine yesterday with the P90x Plyometric workout followed by running a beginner Tae Kwon Do class. Today will be 3 hours worth of martial arts (Hapkido, running an intermediate TKD class, and taking part in an advanced TKD class).

Wow Kronk, I want to go on YOUR vacations...how yummy is that? But, good for you that you enjoyed yourself and got right back on the routine wagon. Some people just give up! Hope you have a good week!

Monday's weight according to the trainer's scale showed zero gain/loss, however, lost 2 inches in the waist. I suspect with better eating choices and keeping up the cycling, I will have a better report next week. Unfortunately, I am hosting a large dinner party on Saturday...

Have a good week everyone!

SG - that is a great way to deal with coming off vacations - your weight loss this past few weeks/ has been nothing short of spectacular. I'm sure having DH firmly on your side is helping also.

Kronk - When you decide to eat you really get into it but your weight is really stable so keep on trucking and inching that weight down.

Heh. When we go on vacation to MIL's vacation house, we get junk food. We don't eat the stuff at other times. And then this past weekend when we were there, SIL was over and baked a whole bunch of stuff: the pound cake, brownies, chocolate tort, cheesecake. So that got added in as well. I really should avoid doing the whole junk food thing, but it just feels so good at the time. And, actually, after about 3-4 days of overindulging, it renews my desire to drop some weight, so it doesn't do any lasting harm.

Today I was the same weight as yesterday (196.2) and my fat percentage dropped a lot (17.1% today vs 18.1% yesterday). Obviously my fat didn't fluctuate that much, but it probably just means that my hydration levels have gotten back to normal.

Congrats to those making progress -- long term motivation is rough. And even those just maintaining weight (like me), motivation gets pretty rough as well.

Exremely happy to be maintaining in the high teens/low 120's! I never dreamed that I could reach this weight again (high school weight). Can't wait to go back and see family over Thanksgiving to show off the new bod. That's motivation to stay on track! Last week I saw someone in dance class who hasn't seen me in probably over a year, and she raved that I looked "amazing", and then repeated it like 3 times! :D

OK, where else can I gloat so openly about losing weight and feeling so good? Love this thread and the people on it! :flowers::flowers::flowers:

Today's weigh-in came from out of nowhere. I've been 197-ish for the last week. Then today was 3-4 pounds under that. Weird. This is one of those days when I weigh light, but still feel a bit chubbily.

I'll probably bounce right back tomorrow, but maybe somehow I'll stay low.

Whoop, whoop! :greetings10: Glad to see you have hit a new low point, 10.5# down total!

Well, with you leading the way and showing us all what can be achieved I just had to make that extra effort. :flowers:

Your short term goal of keeping your new weight to show off at Thanksgiving is a great idea. ;)

As y'all know I dropped out of the thread early this summer. The reason was frustration due to my weight continually yo-yoing, and inability to reach my goal. Well, nothing has changed much, still in the obese range, and I'm really having a lot of trouble. If I get crazy and eat nothing but salad for a couple of weeks I can lose some weight, but as soon as I eat like a non-rabbit I gain again.

I've also been having a lot of trouble with my blood sugar recently. I'm Type II, and monitor it fairly closely. I think I've found part of the problem. I got started on a Zocor (statin) med a while back, and since then my blood sugar numbers have increased by about 25%. I asked my doctor about it and she said they weren't related. I read the side effects of simvastatin, nothing about blood sugar. So I was just assuming my condition was getting worse and I'd probably end up on a diabetes drug next trip to the doc.

But recently I was googling some more and have found tons of people seeing the same symptoms. It's fairly widely accepted as true in the non-medical realm. For example, I found this on a diabetes blog:

Simvastatin is Zocor. What this small but interesting study found was that "Simvastatin significantly improved endothelium-dependent dilation, but reduced adiponectin levels and insulin sensitivity in hypercholesterolemic patients independent of dose and the extent of apolipoprotein B reduction."

Translated into English this means that Zocor reduced cholesterol and improved the elasticity of arteries, but did this at the cost of increasing insulin resistance and decreasing the hormone, adiponectin, that keeps people from gaining weight.

Further down the article was a comment saying wouldn't it be ironic if the massive prescription of statins were contributing to the diabetes epidemic.

Anyway, I suspect the diabetes is more immediately damaging than my LDL level. Especially since my LDL level is fine for a non-diabetic. I'm going to discuss this with my doc again, but I suspect she'll pooh-pooh my concerns since they aren't listed in the PDA. I think I'm going to have to decide whether to pull myself off a prescribed med or not. Uncomfortable decision. I'll definitely have to look at the next set of lab results to help determine the best course. It will be interesting to see whether I'm able to drop pounds more easily after I go off it too. I'll keep you posted.

Harley, very interesting indeed. Please do keep us informed, sounds like a difficult choice, but very tempting to give it a shot.

Yeah Harley, that does sound like a tough call. I certainly would be looking at it hard, too.

Didn't one of the other threads talk about excessive carbs leading to an insulin dump from the system, fat being pulled into cells, and hence obesity (and higher risk for diabetes)? (I'm summarizing off the top of my head, someone correct me if I am wrong.) I haven't studied this extensively. I'm wondering what would happen if you tried one of the lower carb diets. Have you? The diet I am on is higher protein/lower carb, and it definitely isn't all salads. However, it's not Atkins, either. Somewhere middle of the road, with the focus on lean, healthy proteins.

Again, not an expert here, but thought I'd toss it out as food for thought. LOL.
