The "tank" wheelchair

It is neat. Nice to someone be more productive about a problem like that.

Interesting concept. I coach a USFIRST robotics team - and depending on the challenge, I suggest caterpillar treads when appropriate. However, there are tradeoffs. Ability to turn sharply is reduced, as is the overall size - and ability to maneuver through smaller spaces. Looking at the picture in the article, I would think you'd need MUCH wider doors (36" wouldn't be enough) and a HUGE bathroom - to allow turning that beast around.

But the article, and video imply it's an outdoor wheelchair... so I guess you'd have to transfer from your indoor wheelchair to your outdoor wheelchair to use it.

Yes, it looks too big to get around inside without running into things. It would have trouble squeezing through tight spaces.

I ran across this article and think that it's a neat design that gives wheelchair-bound folks the ability to be more active.

+1

You know what they say about building a better mousetrap. I hope the guy is successful and stays busy for a long time.
