Brat, sorry about your health issues. I am outside of my areas of strongest competence, but nonetheless would question the assertion that POP is a risk for ovarian cancer. Unless additional information is at play, it may be worth asking further questions about such a connection. Maybe I am out of date on that topic.
Or perhaps it is one of those "as long as we are in the neigborhood let's remove the ovaries too" deals, with uncertain supporting evidence. These are the questions I would consider asking.
Hope that helps. Please understand that this is not for specific medical advice, but rather of a general nature in helping you decide what issues to further discuss with your doctors.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

I am now embarking on a thread-the-needle health care issue. I have uterine POP, evidently stemming from torn ligaments during childbirth, and found a top notch uro/gyn surgeon (Asst Professor OHSU).. She wants to remove the U + O because of cancer risk while the oncologist says no risk. Next week I will get together with my best buddy from childhood (retired but still licensed general surgeon with a cancer focus, Harvard, Rhodes Scholar and yatta yatta) to figure out how to manage egos.
Damn! Any insights from a former Hospitalist?
My DD commented, when I told her that I was going to a teaching hospital, that if I went to Stanford there would be a stadium sized audience during the procedure. Heck, I will be unaware and my anatomy isn't unique, what the heck.
