Bureaucracy humor -

I went onto Vanguard Site a few days ago and requested that they stop sending me all of the paper associated with my accounts there.

Today I got 5 letters, in separate envelopes from them, saying that they appreciated my effort to help them reduce costs by getting my information on-line instead of through the mail! :D

Actually, there is a good reason for this. They are making sure you are you and that they aren't messing up someone else. They're protecting themselves from making a really big mistake.

Example: my mother-in-law lives with us half the year, so she changes all her addresses at brokerages, etc to our address. One year, when she was changing them all back to her Florida address, I got a letter from Vangard telling me that all my stuff would be going to Florida. They had changed everything for our address to Florida. It was dumb, because obviously the account numbers were different, but at least they had a double check method.

They probably learned the hard way. At least I didn't spend months wondering what happened to my statements.

And that is the nature of Bureaucracies !!

Re: Bureaucracy humor -

Two of them. Who continuously cross check each others reports and issue new reports on the continuous cross checks. Then there are the oversight committees.

Re: Bureaucracy humor -

Well the good news is that a consultant was hired to examine the processes, and he has decided that a Master Debater be hired to provide permanent oversight.

The board of directors promises to review the results of the Master Debater and after several committees massage the results...all with the appropriate re-evaluation by a panel of miscellanously chosen executives...said results will be published in the annual report.

It is predicted by experts that this publication of result will resemble the average drawing produced by a 3 year old, making the annual report suitable for sticking on the front of the refrigerator with a magnet, followed by much oooh-ing and ahhh-ing.

Please note that this thread is subject to committee review, analysis by the consultant, and executive review. The results of that will be examined by the Master Debator who will feed their recommendations to the joint committee on evaluation of the evaluators.

Note also the following disclaimer, which is actually a slightly modified version of my former companies disclaimer*:
