Transitioning from semi-retirement to retirement?

So in gaming out how I want to proceed, the thought occurred to me that I can continue the corporate job for X amount of years then transition to a less demanding but less lucrative job for a while before fully retiring.

Is this a common strategy?

I guess an example would be the best way to explain:

Current age 37
Investments:
160,000 in 401k (80% stocks, 20% bonds/securities etc)
>1200 per month into 401k
5,000 in Traditional IRA
>200 per month into traditional IRA
Home valued at roughly 725k, 250k in equity on it.

My target to retire is roughly 1.2 million in investments plus the paid off house.

Could I:

Work for 10 more years investing at this rate and then take a job making less until I "fully retire" at 60 or so years old?

With the investment calc I'm using, 160k earning 7% over 23 years (time til I hit 60) and investing 1200 a month for the first 10 years (time remaining at current job), I get 1.3 mil and change. So at 60 years old I'll have 1.3 mil. Now I just need something to see me through the gap from 47-60.

Does that make sense?
