We've seen others, maybe even ourselves at one time, who not only didn't follow a FIRE lifestyle, but also did the opposite. What are some phrases associated with FIRE opposites?

paycheck to paycheck

*Sigh*

I have a really close friend/hunting buddy who seems to spend an awful lot. Doesn't max 401k despite a 1XXk salary in a less than outrageous cost area and a working spouse who grosses 50 or so. AFAIK there is not a dime in the college fund for the two high school aged kids. The money all seems to go to status spending by his wife. She grew up poor and seems to be desperate to consistently live the high life. 3 week vacations in Hawaii, brand new Acura MDX, now they are planning an extensive kitchen renovation that will probably push 6 figures of cost (they are getting a second mortgage for this). He recently admitted to me that even when he does really well work-wise, the wife finds a way to spend whatever he earns (and then some, from what I can tell). It saddens me to watch this because they will be fine right up until the end of his career. Then it will all come crashing down in an ugly fashion.

I'm thinking of buying a boat :)
I got 2 boats.. a canoe and a MC Scow... what is wrong with a boat. Next you are going to tell me that my 82 10 speed and hiking vacations have to go!

I'm guessing you are not clearly defining your kind of boat....

Day trading with the emergency fund (yes, I know someone who did this and later regretted)

LBYM - Live Beyond Your Means.

This is how my mind read LBYM here for quite awhile.

"Most of my money has been spent on boats, booze and broads. The rest I just wasted."

As someone who's owned boats all of my adult life, and quite a few before that, there's a lot of truth there. Admittedly, when I was poor, the boats were somewhat infamous for their lack of reliability. But I learned a lot about fixing them!

I have a work friend (52) who is currently in Denmark on a three week vacation. For the past 15 years at our (I retired back in June) company he has only been contributing the required two percent. He keeps mentioning how he needs to get serious about saving for retirement - he doesn't understand when I say to him, you literally missed the best 10 years of the market in your lifetime. But what do I know, as he takes way more vacations than I do!

The one with the most toys win....I see this all the time in campgrounds that we go to. A new diesel truck, pulling a new 38" 5th wheel camper with 5 slide-outs. Momma is driving the new Tahoe, pulling a new ski-boat. The kids are all dressed in designer logo clothes, and $150 tennis shoes.

How about "People who have different priorities than this group"?
