Netflix movie or show suggestion

Highly recommend "The Lunchbox", a 2013 movie from India. Only available on DVD from Netflix at this time, not on streaming yet.

Very sweet, funny, and an interesting look into everyday middle-class life in Mumbai. About two lonely people connecting with each other in a most unusual way. I don't want to give away any more details about the plot so that you can just let it wash over you. :flowers:

It doesn't have a nice fairy tale tie-it-up-in-a-pretty-bow ending, but that's what is so realistic about it. It's ambiguous, we don't know what will happen--just like life!

Great movie, saw it in the theatre, would watch it again whenever it streams
 
250 Best IMDB on Netflix

I think this may have been discussed before, but I just re-discovered it, and spent some time going through the list in detail. Instead of looking at the "suggestions for you", now I'm going to this list for the 8 Star recommendations. I'm surprised to see how many of the most famous films I've never watched.

Netflix movie suggestion

I watched the documentary "The Imposter" last night. It was bizarre but definitely worth watching:

"Nicholas was 13 the day he disappeared (June 13, 1994). He would have been 16 and 8 months when he was reported found in Spain (October 7, 1997)... In 1994 a 13-year-old boy disappears without a trace from San Antonio, Texas. Three and a half years later he is found alive, thousands of miles away in a village in southern Spain with a story of kidnap and torture. His family is overjoyed to bring him home. But all is not quite as it seems. The boy bears many of the same distinguishing marks he always had, but why does he now have a strange accent? Why does he look so different? And why doesn't the family seem to notice these glaring inconsistencies? It's only when an investigator starts asking questions that this strange tale takes an even stranger turn."

Side Effects is a 2013 psychological thriller starring Rooney Mara, Jude Law, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Tatum Channing. Stephen Soderbergh directed. It's full of twists and turns with a good plot and character development and reminds me of the Classic Hitchcock movies of old. The theme pulls together depression, crime and the pharmaceutical and finance industries. No spoilers because this is a good movie to watch with a partner or friend on a rainy night. See if you can figure out what really happened before the denouement!
 
The Trip (2011) with Steve Coogan and Rob Bryden, is a gentle comedic buddy road movie set in the UK. The two leads play modified versions of themselves. Steve is doing research for a newspaper article on gourmet restaurants in Yorkshire. At the last moment, his girlfriend can't come, so he invites a fellow comedian and friend along. Their banter includes some hilarious impressions, particularly of Michael Caine, and some reflections on life, literature, etc. The late winter scenery is beautiful. I have not visited this part of England, and now I want to.

We just watched this on Tuesday! We really enjoyed it. A review of a followup movie opening here this week, The Trip to Italy, mentioned it or we woulldn't have even known about it.
 
We enjoyed The Grand Budapest Hotel. It was funny, and interesting. The story moves fairly well with many has been actors playing minor parts. It was like watching who's who in Hollywood. See how many once famous actor names you can remember.

That one is very quirky indeed. We really enjoyed it too. Not predictable for sure.

+2 I think it's my favorite of Wes Anderson's films.
 
I watched "Twelve O'Clock High" the other night. Always good to watch a classic every now and then,

Vera Season 3

I've raved about Vera, the itv British series starring Brenda Blethyn, here before. Just watched the DVD from Netflix of Season 3, Episode 1.

Still crazy about it. It's my favorite type of mystery/police procedural, because it deals with the psychology and the relationships among the characters so incredibly well. I'm not crazy about all the high-tech police procedurals out there--whether American or British or other European series. I love the ones that challenge you to wonder "who really wants to have these people out of their lives and why?". Vera is all that and more. Blethyn has the most wonderful way about her; reminds me of Colombo.

I may have to buy the whole series on DVD. :)

Can't wait for Netflix to offer Series 3 on streaming. I can watch these British mystery series over and over. I often forget whodunit. :blush:
 
Went to a website called whatthehellshouldiwatchonnetflix.com and it suggested a South Korean Action film called The Host from 2006. Not my usual kind of movie but it was really different from the way Hollywood approaches this kind of story- and in all the right ways. Special effects in service of story, interesting characters, unexpected outcomes- all very engaging and well done.

I am reluctant to say much more and would advise you give it a try (you have to tolerate subtitles) and even avoid reading any plot descriptions or anything else about it, just watch..it got 93% on Rotten Tomatoes...

That will be on my list...

I watched a 2-hour documentary "The Galapagos Affair". A blog post about it can be found here. The RT rating is 82%, but I'd give it a 90%.
 
Catching up on TV series and just finished the entire True Detective series 1 in 2 nights. Absolutely gripping and gave me nightmares!

Watching the series Carnivale and enjoying it, though getting tired of the young lead. The props and music are great - dustbowl era setting. The music should get lead credits IMO. It is a HBO show, and dang I'm old - full frontal nudity on a tv set still surprises me.

See "dang I'm old" remark. Carnivale is on Amazon Prime - not Netflix. Oops.
 
I feel like I should start a thread called "things not to watch on Netflix", populated entirely by the dogs that my husband persists in picking out.
This week's winners included World War Z and The Colony. DO NOT WATCH!

I started to watch WWZ, because I like the female lead, but it was too strange. On Netflix, we really liked The Killing, especially the last couple of seasons.

I liked Silver Linings Playbook, but the characters made me feel very anxious for much of the movie. I had to work for a couple of years with some ladies who had the same illness. Their unpredictable behaviors really bothered me, being an introvert. Too much drama and emotion at work. However, by the end of the movie, I decided I really liked it.

LOL! You just sounded exactly like my DW. But even I would not pick World War Z (Z stands for Zombie I am pretty sure). My choices are ones that she considers to be of "weird" taste.
 
Dh paid good money to go see both WWZ and The Colony in the theater! First run! By himself as he knew I would have been kicked out for bad behavior (yes, making up dialog to turn them into comedies).
 
How about Zombie comedy, like Zombieland?
