Anyone got any travel planned? 2018 version

On tap for this year are:
A trip from the Yosemite back country, along the western Sierras, Death Valley, and Valley of Fire.
Glacier National Park.
Patagonia.

May 2018 - Virginia Beach

August 2018 - Atlantic Beach, NC

November 2018 - Nashville, TN (wife's conference)

January 2019 - Southern Caribbean Cruise (Bonaire, Curacau, Aruba, Cayman)

I

I leave for 6 days in Playa Del Carmen tomorrow.
Memorial Day week has 3 of us going to Cozumel.
Probably doing another liveaboard trip either over Thanksgiving or Christmas (will be using a boat with suites that trip to keep friend's SO happy though).

Others TBD yet..

Spending time out east, once on family road trip in the fall. Going to the pacific on an island to escape this brutal cold in >month. Probably some other trips perhaps to Austin, Nashville, Miami, San Diego or San Fran, all on the radar with nothing off the table in 2018.

So far we have a weekend trip to visit friends and wine taste in Santa Ynez/Santa Barbara in late January and a trip to AZ in Feb. to visit friends in Phoenix and see our niece and her husband in Sedona. Thinking of a month in Palm Springs in the summer and a month to six weeks in Greece in the fall, with a possible stop in Amsterdam to see a friend.

We were away traveling or entertained visitors from elsewhere almost half of 2017. I feel like I want a bit more time at home this year.

Update:Yesterday DH broke his foot. The trip will not happen.
Maybe in Oct./Nov./Dec.

That's too bad and the kind of thing that just comes up out of the blue. Do you buy travel insurance for trips like this? Hope you are not out of pocket for too much money.

Southern Utah (Zion, Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon, Arches) in June.

A couple of years ago I saw the Grand Canyon, Zion and the Arches. I also stayed in Sedona, AZ a couple of days. Sedona was awesome as was the rest of the trip.

I'm planning on going to Colorado this summer for a mini break from our southern humidity. While out that way I would like to swing by Bryce and Canyonlands. On the way back home I'm sure I will stop by a cousin in Santa Fe for a short visit. This Fall I would like to take a road trip up the east coast to see some autumn colors.

Don't forget Capitol Reef...it gets overlooked but it's a wonderful park..

or....Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park

I agree. Both Capital Reef and Black Canyon are the most underrated parks in the US. The best part is that you have the park (almost) to yourself -- worth more than you can imagine until you experience it.

Anyone know of nice, safe, cheap lodging in Barcelona Spain ?
It would be terrific if you could vouch for somewhere you have stayed.

I'm looking at about 10 days in April.

Will keep both in mind. Thanks.

I'm not sure about cheap. Both times I stayed, it was in a vacation apt. Really roomy. But it was several years ago, before Airbnb.

Now I hear Barcelona is one of these cities which is trying to crack down on Airbnb. But there were plenty of rental agencies or owners renting out their flats.

Barcelona is more sprawling than one would expect. Beyond the old gothic quarter, all the Gaudi buildings are in the Eixample and beyond.

So location is important, to be within reach of most of the places. I liked apartments near Placa Catalunya, in the Passeig de Gracia. I think I paid about 110 Euros a night for like 2 bedroom apt. back about 10 years ago.

However, 10 days is a long time just for Barcelona itself. You may want to research renting a car and going north to Costa Brava, maybe up into France.

You can do day trips to Monserrat and Girona as well as Sitges so you don't necessarily need cars for those.

Alternatively, you can look at splitting time between Barcelona and Majorca, which is only an hour flight (there's a ferry but it takes half to a full day each way).

Majorca is pretty dry that time of the year. Not really weather for swimming but if you get sunny days, beautiful coastlines and mountains on the island.

Sunset We rented an apartment in Barcelona through cross-pollinate agency in 2016. You might want to check their website

I'm going back to Italy to play in the Alba Music Festival in May/June. Taking DH this time. Instead of going straight back, we're going to spend a couple of days each in Vienna and Salzburg. Does anyone have a recommendation where to stay in those two cities?

Based on the premise that we're going to live forever, or more likely that each trip may well be our last, we've just booked a transaltlantic for April 2019 from Ft. Lauderdale to Copenhagen.

The 'plan' is to fly to (probably) Helsinki from Copenhagen, and then visit the Baltic States, mainly by train.

Bucerias (just north of Puerto Vallarta) next week for some biking. Kauai in May to celebrate eldest graduation from college. Perhaps Bhutan and Vietnam in October. Empty nest is nice.

Nice trip! Hopefully the road work will be done in Arches by then. We sat in our car for about 1.5 hours at a flagman 1 day in early November.

Just went to Zion last week and they also have the road into Zion under construction in Springdale. Not bad traffic in winter on a weekday but will be a mess when it gets busier as it is a single lane for about a mile through town.

Headed to Virginia from the left coast. Plan on doing DC and Gettysburg.
