Anyone got any travel planned? 2018 version

Boys' Dive trip leaving this Thursday to Cozumel (Iberostar) !

Rich

I and two friends did a self-guided motorcycle tour of Patagonia last year. While there we met six fire-fighters from Arizona in Punta Areanas who were headed to Antarctica on a ten day live aboard dive trip. Talk about an adventure. Got me to thinking...

Gunny, I might need to hear more about Patagonia. We want to go there in another year or so with our little bus (shipping to BA) and drive around South America. I’ve always wanted to do a big camping trip in Patagonia and would love to hear your highlights.

That's got to be over a 1000 mile drive?

Good time to get away from the TX heat?

Just over 1,300 miles each way. We are allotting 13 days for the trip with 6 of those at the shop where we will assemble the boat. It's just three old men on a junket of sorts and spending some quality time away from our wives. :D

Shoot me a PM and I will be happy to answer questions. I have lots of pics.

Flying to Phoenix to pick up our car, then to Sedona for 5 days, then an 8 day road trip back to Illinois.

I booked a flight (for DH and two of our adult offspring) for a few days during the first week in May to Phoenix because Southwest was having a sale out of Little Rock.

Please let me know if you have suggestions. Phoenix is not looking like that much fun. I am thinking a day trip to Sedona should be on our agenda.

(I booked the flights before checking TripAdvisor, but I know there are wonderful experiences ahead.)

We had a wonderful time on our trip to AZ this week and at least 75% was because of suggestions found here. The area had a temperature drop for a few days--just as we were visiting; that was a major plus.

We visited Wrigley Mansion (tour & lunch), Heard Museum, Diamondback-Dodgers game, Broken Arrow Pink Jeep tour in Sedona, lunch at Asylum in Jerome, ASU-Tempe (youngest son interested in their MFA program), ubered to Old Town Scottsdale a couple nights for dinner....it was a really fun trip.

I am glad I checked with ER for advice. :) Good job, you guys!

Much obliged.

Ft Walton Beach next week. That needs no planning.

Back from long weekend in San Diego--Harbor dinner cruise, the Zoo, and a full day on the USS Midway. Great time with friends.
Heading back to Hawaii this fall--love that place, so much to do and see. Not going to the Big Island this time, though!

Was planning our big 2018 road trip. Although we may have found some interesting stops along the way, the destination was the goal.

It became apparent the cost of fuel, rooms, & food, along the way there & back, slightly, exceeds the cost of air fare, airport parking and a rental car for 2 weeks. We'll get there in 4 hours, was gonna be 4 or 5 days of driving each way. I gotta save some cash it I'm gonna do that.

Not sure if I'm disappointed I can't do my road trip or happy I don't have to.

Just had to cancel a trip to China this week for medical reasons. About to find out just how good our credit card cancellation insurance is. Fortunately the claim is only $1K.

Hope the problem is transitory and not too debilitating?

I have booked 4 days at Rathtrevor Beach last week of June. We will combine with a visit to friends in Qualicum Beach and two friends in Victoria, one we stay with in James Bay and the other in Oak Bay. Summer is great here!

Not a BIG trip, as our trips in the past, but we are driving up to Cambria CA for two nights to celebrate my birthday. It is a big birthday, and I like to leave them out of town. On DW's last big birthday, we took a private train from Seattle to LA

I’d be delighted to skip the driving and the days on the road. For some other folks that would be a part of the experience.

DW is arranging a consult with the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN for her migraines. Recommendations for side trips are welcome. Is it crazy or try to catch baseball games in Minneapolis, Milwaukee, St. Louis and/or Kansas City? I figure we can extend for about a week one the medical stuff is done.

On a little 2 night casino run in Reno right now, hopefully my wife’s sons papers will be ready soon and we can go to Thailand this month.

I've just booked ten weeks at Spanish language school in Barcelona, starting in early July.

That sounds awesome. I have been relearning Spanish for a few years and would love to do something like that. There are Meet Up groups in my area that get together strictly to practice language. Right now I’ll have to settle for that. Once I make the big exit in December that can change...

I've just booked ten weeks at Spanish language school in Barcelona, starting in early July.

That's cool - I did a month language immersion training in Quito in 2001....very interesting experience.

Barcelona is nice and I'm sure you'll have a great time. If you go in the winter, you might even be able to go skiing in the mountains near there. Also, that is the heart of Catalunya....go to Mallorca if you can while there - gorgeous island with beautiful water and great hiking.

OK- I leave for the Baltics (Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia) on 4 June-17 June I fly to Stockholm and then take a train to Falun to stay with a friend for a week. I've planned the trip myself - will be flying into Vilnius from Frankfurt, taking a bus from Vilnius to Riga and Riga to Talinn -a flight from Talinn to Stokholm and then back to Frankfurt and home. I'm staying in guest houses and converted convents :)

I've got a rough idea of what I want to see/do in the Baltics, but would love any advice from anyone on suggestions in the itinerary. I've read Rick Steves, Lonely Planet, Trip Advisor, etc, so have a handle on the general stuff, but if there is anything truly unique, then I'm all ears. For example, I will be going on a bog hike in Laaheemaa Natl park in Estonia.

Thanks in advance for any tips!

I'm going to Maui next month for a week, to visit my son. He and his girlfriend are living on a commune where they live off their fruit trees and vegetable garden. I'll rent a cabin on the property while I am there, solar electricity included.

Since I am a vegetable gardener, I am very interested in how they grow and what they grow. It should be a learning experience. I admit I am squeamish about human composting toilet compost used on the fruit trees, but I am open to hearing about it.

Since I will have a rental car, we can do some traveling around the island. Last time he lived in Hawaii, it was in Pahoa where the volcano is causing havoc....I visited him there on a very small commune. I am glad he is not on the Big Island this year. I wouldn't go..

Booked what will be my first post FIRE trip, in 2019. It was great to not have to worry about when or how to fit it into my work schedule...[emoji106][emoji106]
