Flyover country
We had an interesting discussion about this some years ago. I was surprised then at how well traveled some of us were, so I though it might be fun to update it as many of us are now getting back to traveling again after the pandemic times.

For the purpose of this, we can use the "country" definitions of the Travelers' Century Club, which is pretty generous.

Also, any time on the ground will count, so as to make it even more generous.

I just added a couple of new ones, and I've increased my total count to 41. I realize I have no chance of ever getting to 100, but I'm certainly not done yet!

I'm at 37 right now and will be adding 3 more on my transatlantic cruise in November.

I’m at 44 and hope to be adding to that number in the coming year if my travel plans work out.

If I don’t count the Caribbean islands I am at 7. I was on 4 Caribbean cruises and have lost track of how many islands I’ve been in.

I'm at 46. Will add 3 in September/October (Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania) and, God willing, 7 in October, 2024 (Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia) on a Baltic cruise. Well, at least I'll reach the half-century mark!

11 different countries so far. I am 43. Always travelled on my terms with friends or family, pleasure only never for work.

US (almost all 50 states including all the Hawaiian Islands), Canada (Vancouver, B.C), Cancun, Puerta Aventuras, Tulum, Tijiuana, (going to Mazatlan '24), New Zealand (North and South island too many cities to list), Iceland, Germany (frankfurt, Nuremburg) Czec Republic (Prague) , Hungary (Budapest) , Austria (Vienna), Netherlands (Amsterdam red light district for a week with buddies Sr yr of high school haha), France (Paris), Morocco (Casablanca, Rabat, Kinitra, Fez, Merakesh).

Plan to visit Turkey and Egypt soon. Back to Morocco as well.

The only country I have been in outside of my own is Canada. I won't be going to any other country unless something weird happens and I end up with a huge amount more money than I have now. I wouldn't travel by air unless it was at least business class since I am 6'6" and have chronic pain and will not subject myself with voluntary torture in coach. I wouldn't be able to justify that expense unless I was retired and had more money than I needed. Maybe one day.

50 even. But as you noted, that list is very generous. For example, it count’s Hawaii & Alaska as separate countries from the mainland US?

Only in the mid 40's... Hope to hit 50 if our trip to Asia pans out this winter. (Airfare is remaining stubbornly high, so may choose another area.)

Alaska and Hawaii? LOL OK.

EDIT: Scotland and Wales?

I don't think a number = well traveled.
When I think well traveled, I picture somebody who worked abroad for some months and studied in France for a semester or two, or lived out of a suitcase and bopped around Europe for 6 months solid. In each of those cases it might be single digits of countries, but an immersion in other cultures.

States is all minus NM, OK, MS, MI, MA, NH, ME, DE
Several trips I was flying, and the fuel capacity made for some flyover states.

20 countries and all 50 states. I may not hit a lot more countries. Air travel isn't fun for me anymore.

59 countries, 7 continents, 24 time zones. Arctic and Antarctic circle, Prime Meridian and International date line.

Using the list, I have been to 25 countries. I will add another in October when we go to Greece.

In terms of US states, I have been to all of them except Nebraska, Kansas, Louisiana and Mississippi, and I have lived in 14 of them.

One of the cool things about being in the military is that I've visited all 50 US states and have lived for at least a week in 28 of them, and at least a month in ten.

I answered the poll thinking it was 15 mostly in Europe but then I started to remember trips to the BVI, a cruise in the Mediterranean, so it’s likely closer to 20.

I traveled internationally for 30 years. Racked up 4,000,000+ air miles.

All of Europe, Carribean, Canada, Asia (Singapore, Korea, China, Hong Kong,Taiwan, Kuala Lumpur, Thailand), Japan, exotics like Kiritimati (Christmas Island), Kwajalein, Tarawa, New Guinea, USSR (before the fall; East Germany a week after the fall), Mexico, Brazil, India, Morocco, Egypt, Israel......but never got to Australia! All US states except Oklahoma.

30+ Circumnavigations ( Boston to Europe to Asia to Boston) Most trips were typically 14 days.

Lived in France for several years, Japan, Norway and China for a bit.

136 for me using Traveler's Century Club list. Will pick up another 20+ in next 18 months.

37 so far plus another three next month on a Baltic cruise.
I've been to all 50 states.

Africa and Australia & the Pacific are sorely lacking. Hopefully someday I'll make up for it.

I've been to all 50 states and some of the territories.

Foreign countries?.....maybe around 20. I'll have to count them up someday. I'm limiting my travel to the US going forward as there are many places I have not seen here. And I want nothing to do with flying anymore.

I have been were most have not. Stepped into North Korea for about a second. LOL

I'd have to sit down and count them. If I connected or refueled in a country but never left the airport does that count? [emoji848]

Then there are those of us who have lived in the stateless realm of Captain Nemo for long periods of time.

I'm at 43 based on the Traveler's Century Club list. My personal count is 35.

My count has stagnated, since I keep traveling to different parts of countries that I've already visited. I might have to get creative next year to add to the list.
