How to cope with bad work situation?

Yeah, we will see. Realistically, despite the excesses to which they are going, I am too low in the hierarchy for them to consider my idea. If you are at a certain grade, it is sufficient evidence that you are not going to be leading anything, regardless of ability. This is a hidebound culture that prizes tenure and appearance over ability and results. So the extensive efforts to convince me to stay are out of bounds with how things are done, but...
DId we w*rk together and just not realize it? It is universal, isn't it? :nonono:

I wish you the best of luck in getting this nonsense done and over with so you can refocus on the good stuff in life. :flowers:

Yeah Brewer - dying to know what happened today. Hope if went well for you and not too much cr@p - well, I guess the latter is probably impossible.

Well, an hour ago I was told the changes cannot be put in place in time for my schedule and after some thought the VP realized that I am uniquely suited for the new spot (true), so I was off the hook. He hoped I would stay in the loop on certain matters (I will out of professional interest) and no hard feelings. Within minutes I accepted the new spot and I feel like a 200# man stopped sitting on my chest.

Resolution. Priceless.

This relieves the immediate pressure, but does not change the plan of ESR in the next 5 years. Hopefully the new slot is bearable that long.

Congratulations!!! With any luck the new position will be a good fit in all ways, and you can get away from the stress associated with the old position.

Nice of them to realize the correct answers when told.

Congratulations!!!

Having a plan, then working it saved my sanity in a similar situation.

Congrats! Did you give them some "ultimatum" deadlines? Is that how they figured they "couldn't meet your schedule"?

I never had the chance. They just seem to have realized that their timeline was a week or two and mine was a day or two.

Or that senior execs spoke and the one who wanted you the most prevailed.

It is a well known fact that even corporate execs occasionally make good decisions....

Good luck.

Yes, I think it indicates that there was a serious high-level discussion, and I expect with some sentiments of "enough already", "you guys had your chance" etc. from your new section pointing out the incredibly weak position of your old higher-ups, and so they figured out how to transition gracefully. If so, I think this bodes very well for you - higher ups who want you and will speak up for you.

Congratulations! Hoping to hear good w*rk tales at the NJ meetup one of these days, where you can really enjoy your brew!

In larger organizations mentoring is key to both development and advancement. This might be an opportunity to establish a mentor-type relationship with the senior exec that supported this. That might prove to be especially helpful in avoiding similar situations in the future.

Considering the of people coming out of the woodwork all over the organization to tell me how much they will miss me and wish me well, apparently I had a lot more friends than I realized.

This reaffirms research that shows that staff and lower level management are aware of key info long before senior execs are...

Its probably a classic case of survivor's guilt, but I feel bad about the friends I am leaving in this mess. I guess all I can do is help them get out. But it is tempting to fire back at the bad actors in this situation.

So how many of us retired folks after reading Brewer's saga, and reflecting on similar experiences are itching to go get j*b? And to think people ask why I retired :)...

I am also having a hard time letting go of the bitterness and resentment. Guess it is simply a product of suppressing it so I could secure my ticket out. I am a specialist wth lots of experience at exactly what this department does. I should have gone in and done really well, doing a lot of "greater good" in the process. Instead I am limping out with my tail between my legs trying not to spew out of disgust.

This must be what they mean when they talk about the "dignity of work."

Any chance you could provide a link to some of this research? (I am currently attempting to educate my CEO about several issues within our company which desperately need to be resolved.)
