I like individual stocks as it helps me to control my taxes. In my taxable account I have stocks like BRK, GOOGL, AMZN, etc. and they grow with no tax consequence. My cash for daily living comes from individual bonds and munis I own in the same account.
In my IRAs I own dividend stocks...
$360,000
$35,000 in Taxes
$100,000 in College Payments, etc.
$45,000 for a new Car
$39,000 for Vacations
$32,000 for Medical
Those are the biggies.
3% NWR so no worries. Need to get these kids out of college!
my WDR was 3% for 2023 - just about where it has been every year since I stopped working in 2018.
More important to me is my Net Worth has increased 19.2% since I stopped working 6 years ago. Tells me I definitely made the right decision. But I definitely need to spend more or come up with...
My 2023 withdrawal rate was exactly 3.00% So even thought my spending number was pretty high with two kids in college I think I'm good.
Been retired 6 years and my net worth is up 19.2%. Also seems like I did the right thing.
Easy Answer - Bought my first used car since college. 2022 Audi Etron (fully electric) with only 2000 miles on it. Flew to Denver and drove it home 2000 miles.
Car sold 2 years ago for $79,000 and I bought it for $41,500 certified from an Audi dealer.
Love being retired where a 5 day...
That's my take also. However, the Issuer did just borrowed $32M from the state at 2.0% and since this is just a piddley little $460,000 at 3.125% why not pay it off?
Ha ha we will see in 11 days.
Wow - That would make me very happy were it to occur. I have a 3.125% CT bond that I figured I would be holding another 12 years callable starting now....
The average interest rate for new cars is 7%. This has to have an impact on demand eventually.
I know the folks on this site are not normally borrowers, but the average joe in the US is.
Similar position as you. I am 61 and just getting to retiring my 11 year old Subaru that i bought new. I normally buy a car and keep it for 10 years so my next car will take me to 71!
So I want to buy a new EV and man the BMW IX looks nice at $85k! I can easily afford it and have come...
I drove across the border this summer cutting from Saulte St. Marie over to Vermont. The Canadian guy asked me where I was going and how long I would be in Canada. 2 Minutes tops. The US guy 2 days later said "welcome home" and that was maybe 1 minute.
I'll be comparing the price to other EVs such as the Audi Etrons. I think the Acura is made in the US with a US battery so should get the $7500 off plus another $1500 from state incentives - which would hopefully put the price into the mid 50s for the base model.
Who knows where the prices...
I think I am on board for this when it comes out next year. Already have an ID.4 so am looking forward to being fully transitioned. This is the Acura ZDX - made in the USA with a GM battery.
My approach at 60 YO is I still do most everything myself but I bring in equipment to make life easy. Last time I painted the house I rented a spider lift for a week - holy cow that was easy - no ladders! If I had that painting job in the stairwell hello scaffolding!
I also buy myself a new...
