    Struggling with AMT/Dividend Tax Efficiency

In recent years my wife and I have become subject to AMT. This caused me to run our 2014 taxes both with and without our brokerage account dividend income to understand how our dividend income is impacting our overall tax liability. It turns out we're paying close to 30% effective tax rate on...

    Anyone invest in REITs?

My target allocation has 2.5% US REITS and 2% foreign REITS. I had originally set these targets higher, but read something here that their are 'hidden' REIT allocations within standard indexes.

    FIRE target club - 2020

As handle indicates, 2019 was original target. Maybe revise to 2020 per Mr Market (and that's probably optimistic)

Allocation of Foreign stocks among brokerage/IRA/401 accounts

Good point. I looked into this issue using VFINX as a proxy for US and VEURX as a proxy for foreign. According to yahoo finance, here are the dividend yields for each fund from 1990-2008 based on the closing price when each dividend was paid (hopefully this displays well): VEURX 1990 - 1.6%...

Allocation of Foreign stocks among brokerage/IRA/401 accounts

LOL - to your question on keeping the proportions similar between accounts... I've never actually targeted this, but for whatever reason they're all pretty similar (around 35-40% foreign). I guess the reason I'd like some level of both foreign and US equities in each account type is due to the...

Allocation of Foreign stocks among brokerage/IRA/401 accounts

Recently I’ve been giving some thought to how my domestic/foreign equities are allocated between my various account types. Historically I’ve tried to allocate the highest yielding assets to the retirement accounts in order to minimize taxes since I just end up reinvesting the proceeds anyway...

    estate tax

Agreed. But you try taking estate matters with a late-80s, depression era WWII vet! ;) Btw - family is working with an trusts & estates lawyer. As an extended family member I haven't been involved in those discussions, but have heard some stuff second hand. And his direction is consistent with...

    estate tax

Does anyone have experience or an understanding of the methods for tax efficiently transitioning assets to family members? I am already aware of the annual gifting exemptions (currently 12k) and lifetime gift exemption (currently $1M, but reduces estate exemption at death). Specifically, are...

Getting by on $565. An article from the LA Times.

"Time, not money, is the real commodity in life," said Dixon, relaxing in the salon of his boat as a sea lion barked nearby. Couldn't have said it better myself. ;)

Where the money is in America...still NE!

Umm, have you seen the increases in farm rents the last few years??? I have family members who own midwest farm land, and the land prices are up about 50% in the last year... With crop prices so high right now you wouldn't have any trouble moving a farm.
