    Sunday night gratitude

Do not miss “Sunday night angst” at all. DH and I still marvel at the idea that we live the same or better lifestyle but without having to work. Taking naps still feel like a luxury, but we are getting used to it (retired in 2016). Life is good!!!!

Would you buy this home in our situation?

Wow…a friend listed a 1700’ house on small lot in 55+ community in community outside Seattle for $1.1M with $300 month HOA fee. It was listed yesterday and has a sale pending. I can’t believe these properties are similarly priced, but so different. It’s crazy.

Estimated fee to be an Executor of an estate

I was the executor and POA for my mother and her moderate estate. I retired two years early to help care for her and take her to her numerous doctor appointments and hospital stays. She had a will and I had helped her organize her finances several years in advance. Her estate wasn’t complex...

    Italy!

DD and I will be trekking for ten days via the Alta Via 1 in the Dolomites in early September. We will have a brief stay in Venice and then head to Florence for a week. I still need to book our flights and accommodations in Florence. Any recommendations? This trip was postponed for two years...

Anyone Else Soured on Dining Out?

DH and I use to enjoy going to nicer restaurants. But, the experience has diminished over the past few years. It seems the ambiance is gone with the newer designs (hard floors, higher ceilings, open floor plans, etc.) and rooms are so loud you can’t carry on a conversation. We still haven’t...

    Hobbies

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 My first five years of retirement I spent a lot of time hiking, snowshoeing, scrambling and climbing in the mountains (PNW) gradually building up my skill level and researching routes, gear, etcetera. It kept me so busy that I wasn’t home much or spending time with DH and I’m finding...

    Beekeeping in Retirement

Yes, two hives (one Italians and one Carnolians). We have had an exceptionally cold and wet spring, but the girls are doing well. I’ve joined a local Beek club and am constantly reading and learning. I spend hours each week observing their coming and goings from the hives. They are...

    Beekeeping in Retirement

I’m in the process of preparing for my bee packages to be delivered in April. I did watch my neighbor/mentor do her first hive inspections today. All three hives survived and she will need to do a split on one of the hives very soon. We saw one of the queens and the saw lots of eggs, larvae...

    Beekeeping in Retirement

A quick update. No issues raising bees in our area (rural area near a protected reserve). I’ve ordered my first hive boxes. I get them next week (mediums). I ordered my bees (3lb.Italians) with a marked queen. I pick them up in April. Meanwhile, I’m reading books, blogs and watching lots of...
