Post-Retirement Struggles for Someone Who Should have None

It can be challenging for those who have focused their entire lives on their careers to transition into retirement. I'd recommend reading Ernie Zelinski, "The Joy of Not Working". It may help you find your way. It's nice to see someone also from the GTA. I'm actually in a similar situation...

Looking for kitchen faucet buying advice

Touchless Moen Faucet from Costco. I don't think I can go back to non-touchless. It's so handy when cooking and much more sanitary. The only issue was it ate through batteries like crazy. Ended up getting an AC adapter and installing an electrical outlet below the sink.

How far over your 'number' did you go?

Retired 5 years ago. Our number in firecalc gave a 99% success rate with a 3.2% SWR. Spouse retired 3 years later. 2 years later (5 total) our net worth is now 50% higher than our number at a SWR of 2.2%. (principal residence is not included in any calculations)

    Money management software

+1 for Microsoft Money Sunset Edition. I've been using MS Money since 1996 and I have yet to find a better solution. It has account registries to track all transactions, Investment accounts, multi-currency support, Lifetime and retirement planning, budgeting, reporting and graphs, Bill...

Class of 2016 in their 5th Year of Retirement

Class of 2016 here. Best 5 years of my life. Kids are still in school, so they keep us on a schedule. Lockdown has prevented family travel. Original SWR was 3.2%, now down to 2.1%. Can't complain.

Large Cap (VOO) vs Total Market (VTI) considering Covid-19

Good point. I have about a 65/35 asset mix - all ETFs. I'm Canadian so I have a slight home bias due to preferential tax treatment for Canadian Dividends. - 20% Canadian Equities - 20% US Equities - 20% International Equities - 5% Emerging Markets - 30% Bonds - 5% Cash This question is...

Large Cap (VOO) vs Total Market (VTI) considering Covid-19

Would you recommend S&P 500 Large Cap (VOO) or Total Market Index (VTI) for someone who recently retired? Historically I have been investing in Large Cap and it has out performed Total Market over the past 10 years. Most people recommend Total Market due to diversification. Management fees...

Welcome and congrats. I was in almost the identical situation 2 years age when I retired at 44 with 2 preteen kids. Retiring was one of the best decisions I ever made. Adjusting was a breeze for me. I was working for megacorp but was working from a home office so the transition was easier...

Canadian looking to retire soon at 44 yrs.

It has been 1 year since I have retired and I have been enjoying every moment of it. I still have a regular routine as I have a pre-teen and a teenager at home and I prepare their meals, make sure they get to and from school and manage their extra curricular activities. I have been busy with...

Just put in my two week notice.

Congrats. I was in a similar situation. We had some layoffs in June including my long time manager. I had asked my new manager to put me at the top of the list if there was another round, but being a long time employee, I was too expensive to give a package and too cheap to let go (newer guys...
