Activity might be the most important thing.

My weekly routine is a 1.5 mile walk and 1 mile swim on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. It unfortunately does nothing for my weight (a bit over obese limit BMI), but it keeps my joints mostly painless and helps keep me moving pretty much effortlessly despite my weight. I have been doing this...

HSA limit when only one parent and kids qualify

I retired last summer and I am now covered by my ex employer's retiree health plan, which is not a HSA qualified HDHP plan. My wife is still working and has a HDHP plan through her employer, which also covers our two underage kids. The question I can't find clear answer for is: Can my wife...

    Class of 2022

Informally told the boss about my July 2022 plan a few weeks ago. Wanted to give him ample time to decide about a successor. Boss acted like was not even slightly surprised. For sure, the days seem to pass impossibly slow since then. All kinds of issues to fight, from labor shortages to...

    Class of 2022

Since we are "not" counting: I just hit the one year to my last w@rking day milestone. Official RE day still July 1. Effectively 215 w@rk days left given the fact I try to use up all the accumulated PTO.

    Deferred pay and PIA

Very good point. According to my 2020 W2 I did pay medicare tax for the part of the compensation that went to the non-qualified rabbi trust (#1 in my OP). So even though I did not pay SS tax from it being over the max already, that part was FICA taxed. The top 20% of my DB pension (#3 in my...

    Deferred pay and PIA

That's useful to know. You did not directly answer the other part of my question, so am I understanding correctly that SSA does not really care if I am still employed and actually working for the FICA taxable income? I will have another 9 years to go after retirement to have the full 35 years...

    Deferred pay and PIA

I am 56 and starting preparations to take early retirement in 14 months, around the time I turn 58. I will have only 26 years of FICA payments at the time of my RE, so I am trying to figure out how much will my SS PIA be reduced due to ER. The area of uncertainty to me is the impact of various...

Did any of you regret early retirement or is anyone worried about leaving too early?

Different situation but the similar end result. I will be retiring next year to raise our young kids. At that point my DW will be returning to work for potentially another 20 years for what she says. Very helpful for continuing employer HI coverage but not really necessary from FI standpoint...

Did any of you regret early retirement or is anyone worried about leaving too early?

But isn't it typical in most Megacorps that your best year is your last year, regardless of the age? At least seems to me the case in mine. Any OMY would be same or higher total compensation than any prior year was. That, outside of the obvious layoffs and other involuntary departures.

    selling on ebay

Virtually everything that I have bought from eBay or Etsy from domestic sellers is shipped via USPS Priority Mail. Maybe a day slower but remarkably cheaper.

    Dental Insurance FWIW

Here in our rural area we have a shortage of dentists so they don't participate in any discount programs. Only two dentists in our county of 16,000. Guess I will be stuck paying for an insurance once RE.

New Rav4 purchase falls apart .... not sure what to do

I have had a similar battery issue develop with my 2018 RAV4 hybrid. It gets driven only 4-5 times per month right now and we had two recent occurrences of the dead battery after just 7-8 days of sitting in the garage. The Toyota dealership looked into it and could not find anything wrong but...
