    Ready to FIRE?

I'm happy to report that I successfully got laid-off with a generous severance package (5-months free COBRA, 5-months pay as severance, 25% of unvested-RSUs accelerated vesting) on Monday! I'm already enjoying being retired!

Living off dividends = to 0% WR?

Thanks for all the great tips! Especially the tax considerations. I do have my eye on keeping my income in-line with ACA limits. As a married person in California, I the sweet spot seems to be around 60-70k income (which is around my spending level the last 10 years). I think interest and...

Living off dividends = to 0% WR?

Ok, thanks that makes a lot of sense. So I took the yearly dividend and divided by my total balance. Seems my WR = 1.5% Thanks for answering a dumb question. :)

Living off dividends = to 0% WR?

I've realized that the interest and dividends coming from my taxable accounts has been larger than my average spending. Currently, all of them are automatically reinvesting. I plan to retire at the end of this year. I want to switch my taxable accounts to send dividends to my checking and...

    Ready to FIRE?

Just to follow-up: I told my manager that I'm planning to quit this December, and until then, I'll be working on detailed documentation for whomever takes-over my work. He did some research, and just got back to me. Apparently there aren't any layoffs planned now, but his manager always keeps...

Today is the 10 year anniversary of my joining this forum, AND today I told my boss I'm retiring this year (exact date still tbd)! So thankful for all the advice I got on this forum over the last 10 years.

Poll:Do you Own your home outright?

Amazing - this is exactly the same thing we did at the same time! In hindsight, it would have been better to buy stocks in 2009, but it sure didn't feel like a good idea at the time. I don't regret not having a mortgage though.

That's terrible! Thanks for sharing. Maybe I'll just offer to "document" my work, and if anyone has questions while I'm here, then I'll answer them.

    Ready to FIRE?

I touched on this a little in post #15. There definitely is the regular "sacrificial headcount" situation at this company. Now I'm leaning toward not telling him a date. I just want to say that I'm leaving soon, but willing to stay a while longer if he'd like me to train my replacements. I...

Thank you for the compliment; however, I've actually been lurking (and sometimes posting) on this board for 10 years. So I'm glad to say I learned something from you all. Thanks for all the help!

    Ready to FIRE?

We sure do think alike! Since I've been expecting to retire soon, I've done the following things to our house within the last 3 years: New 40 year roof, new gutters with gutter-guards, new attic insulation (with rodent-proofing), new HVAC ducts, new furnace, new A/C, new paint (inside and...

    Ready to FIRE?

Well, the company is in the process of being purchased by another company with a reputation for cost-cutting and cash-cowing companies. Of course, they are claiming things will be "different" with this merger, but nobody really believes them. That company "sold" this merger to shareholders...
