    Share your FIRE Milestones - 2013- 2020

It is my annual practice to officially document net worth at the beginning of the year. Jan 1st results in us passing the $1M mark. A lot of self-satisfaction... very little fanfare. Sent from my iPad using Early Retirement Forum

    Staying Motivated Early On

I agree with the comments/will add: 1. avoiding friends that you know you will try to keep up with financially 2. Avoid the American allure with expensive cars...and malls 3. I spent a lot of time working on climbing the corporate ladder (and salary) to save more. 4. I have read and re-read...

    Is Everyone a Multi-Millionaire?

No, I am fine. But put yourself in the shoes of a young family with two middle/elementary age kids living in a metro area - and tell them that any more $ than 75 will not make their life easier/enjoyable/fun. Yeah right. Sent from my iPad using Early Retirement Forum

    Is Everyone a Multi-Millionaire?

These kinds of articles drive me insane. They come across as "we"/"the man" have calculated that this is all you really need to lead a happy life....so be happy with it. Are they insane? Are you seriously trying to tell me that a family living anywhere in the USA would not be happier with...

    My $18K/Yr Basic Expense Budget

I am impressed. Heck, we spend about $2k / yr on my 7 year olds gymnastics classes!

Americans seem to be fed up with frugality

I agree with HillCountry. A huge amount of this spend is expensed as business meals. IMO almost all "business meetings" include catered lunch or a lunch out. You can probably eat lunch every day in our office on the company if you know how to work the system.

Not who I thought I was!

Lisa, can you explain in a little more detail what kind of information that you got back from 23andme? They actually sent you contact information from DNA matches?

    Gotta brag...

IMO - questioning and discussing = great. Logging-in to a financial account to inspect = helicopter parent.

The Sequester - Are we being hornswoggled?

Agreed. Obviously politicians are going to spin it as if it was the end of the world. I bet it is like waking up on Jan 1, 2000.

    Your advice... Choosing a Profession

Nursing. Bang for the buck the best career choice in my opinion. 2 yr degree and there is always a demand.
