Retired 12 years. 80% equity (all index funds), with about 2/3rds Total U.S. Stock and 1/3rd Total International Stock. 20% cash and short term dollar denominated securities, mostly T-bills, T-notes, non-callable CDs + a few I-Bonds.

I think Vanguard Just Called Me Difficult and Expensive

Well, sadly, it's no longer "your Father's" Vanguard----or, for that matter, Jack Bogle's Vanguard. Then too, I laugh every time I see one of their advertisements, which usually end with the caption of, "Vanguard-----where you are the owner." Yeah, sure----but don't dare ask how much the...

Battery Powered Tools - Which Brand?

Same here. Ryobi is a lighter-duty, homeowner, brand. If you want to go professional-grade and buy a first class tool, go with Milwaukee, DeWalt or Makita.

    Cars in non-metallic gray

Reminds me of a color from back in the 40s and 50s called Ford Gray; Ford also painted their tractors (back in the day when they still manufactured farm equipment) the same color, albeit, with red trim.

Having lived in both Europe and the U.S., if faced with a serious health issue, I would much rather receive treatment in the States than any of the countries of Europe.

Why Aren't I-Bonds Getting More Attention?

I've been buying I-Bonds for the last several years-----but back to the question as to why they don't get more attention? I-Bonds are not necessarily easy to purchase and---possibly most importantly---no "financial representative," certified or otherwise, earns a commission from their purchase...

    Book suggestions for WWII buff

Check out the well researched, well written and award-winning WW2 "Liberation Trilogy" by Rick Atkinson. In terms of aviation, I'd suggest the new book, "Masters of the Air" by Donald L. Miller----it is a masterpiece and you just can't go wrong with it.

    Realistic Investment returns: 7-10 years

For a 60/40 portfolio over the next ten years, I'd guess a return of about 4% nominal, 2% real. Wish it was better, however, we're at a point of very high stock valuations and incredibly low fixed income interest rates.....and there is the tendency for things to revert to the mean.

    Specialty Museums in the US

Yes! If you love the West, you'll love this museum----truly top notch. And although not a "museum" as such, a tour of the antebellum homes in Natchez, Mississippi is a superb historical experience. Among the plantation homes that you will want to tour are Stanton Hall, Longwood, Magnolia and...
