    Anyone renting for life?

I live in the east bay too now, which doesn't have rent control as you know. I'm also still looking for work so I can't get another place. Man I wish I had learned to drive so I could move into an RV now. I used to move around a lot in my 20s which was so much fun.

    Anyone renting for life?

I have rented almost my entire life...with two fairly short stints as a homeowner. I prefer to rent because I can't manage house expenses and repairs on one income (money and time), plus I like smaller spaces. My tiny apt in SF Bay Area going up to $2k per month, so I may mice out of state...

    Do companies give severance anymore?

I was severed as part of a workforce reduction. In April I will be getting 24 weeks of pay (3wks per year) plus $9,000 for benefits/transitional costs.

    New Milestone - $300,000

Hi All, I just crossed the $300k threshold today! Whoo Hoo [emoji385] [emoji383] [emoji389] This makes my lay off a little more palpable. Since my layoff technically starts on 4/2/2017, I have four more 401(k) contributions ($3,170.48) coming. It'll be weird to have a break in contributions...

Laid Off - Keeping ER on Track

I forgot to mention, when I was laid off in Jan of 2008, I found a temp assignment the following month that lasted a year and led indirectly to finding my current job. Each morning I'll get up and hike near my house and do Zumba a few nights a week. Unfortunately, I've let myself go a...

Laid Off - Keeping ER on Track

I see your points and I agree. I'm looking now, mostly through LinkedIn. And, I'm not going to hold out for the perfect job...I'll factor in retirement benefits, commute time, etc. I'll even move if I have too. [emoji846]

Laid Off - Keeping ER on Track

Hi All, Three weeks ago, I was informed that my job (along with hundreds of others) would be eliminated, but I negotiated to stay until 2/1/2017. I will continued to be paid bi-weekly until 4/5/2017, after which time I will we paid for excess vacation and 23 weeks of severance plus $9,000 for...

    CLASS OF 2027 to 2037

Okay Folks, It's that time of the year again, to update each other on our progress and to get inspiration from others wanting to retire between 2027 and 2037. My cash savings was lacking this year, but I fully maxed out my Roth ($5,500.00) and 401k ($17,999.89). My 2017 financial resolution...

    Craig's List experiences

I sold gardening tools two years ago and a dining room set two weeks ago...no problems. The buyers were women which made it less nerve wracking. Sent from my iPhone using Early Retirement Forum

    Any blue collar workers here?

Hi Gary T, I don't have a blue collar job, but I'm an administrative assistant (secretary) in California. I just make sure to max out 401(k) and Roth each year. Slow and steady contributions have resulted in $300k since 2003, and include idiotic Roth withdrawals of $13,000 and inconsistent...

Anyone else here forced to retire and scared to death?

Geez Sunset, you've made your point several times over. Stop berating OP. Yes, he's made a lot of mistakes and he has more power than he realizes or is willing to accept, but now you're just being rude and kicking sand in OP's face. Sent from my iPhone using Early Retirement Forum
