    eat loss on new eyeglasses

The new pair of eyeglasses that I bought three months ago and which I had them re-make twice --- so three sets of lenses --- which still don't feel quite right were said by my ophthalmologist's office's optician to have "some" distortion. The implication is that the lenses were not of high...

    more Amazon sleight-of-hand

Putting "sponsored" items into Baby Registries. Saw the segment on Good Morning America. Unless you are careful, it is easily overlooked. https://www.theverge.com/2018/11/28/18116274/amazon-baby-registry-unwanted-sponsored-products-ads

    return 3rd-party seller on Amazon

I bought a tripod laundry rack from a 3rd-party seller on Amazon. One of the three rods at the top that extend out would not lock into place. And you can see that who ever assembled it in China, broke a plastic part. When I went to Amazon.com to report a problem, I was given two choices: a.)...

    holiday gifts for acquaintances

For the past two years, my mother has given the office staff at the senior center a bottle of wine ~$15. This year she wants to do something else. This is for five people; both male and female. I am not keen on her idea of boxes of chocolates. I was thinking those big candied apples. Other...

This week I received a letter from Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of NJ informing me about Open Enrollment for 2019. It states that the estimated monthly payment for 2019 will be $X which is 11.3% less than 2018. Yet, when I went on healthcare.gov to enroll and choose a plan, I am getting...

small claims court the next step?

I worked contract this summer until August 27. I was paid for that day's work, but not the previous week. My one-page contract stated I was to be paid every week. It now is 60+ days, and I am still owed $1300+ for one week's work. The employees there are still getting paid, but they are...

    drinking soda instead of water

I was my local Panera for lunch. They have the small clear plastic cups if you tell them you only want water and do not want to pay for iced tea or soda or coffee etc. Today I saw two women with the small plastic cups with red liquid. Either fruit flavored ice tea or fruit punch. Have you...

    I really don't want to work full-time

These past 5 years of "freedom" where I have worked contract jobs and despite its associated headaches of uncertainty, I am really not wanting to work a 40-hour job again. Yet. There is that big yet, I have the nagging thought that maybe I should work a year or two. I don't quite trust...

    Garmin GPS fitness tracker

I was in the local Target and found the Garmin Forerunner 10 on clearance for half price. It is fitness tracker with a GPS. I am not a runner. I also looked into selling it on eBay for a profit, but past transactions showed them selling for less than I paid for mine. Is there any...

    Nest Cam Outdoor

I am leaning very strongly towards the Nest Cam Outdoor. I have a ledge outside my the windows on my 2nd floor. I wouldn't have to pay anyone to mount it. I think I should be able to close the window over the flat cable and get the flat cable into the house that way. Anyone have one of these?

hose bib leaks only when hose is attached

It doesn't leak otherwise. But when I attach a hose with a sprinkler and turn on the water, it starts leaking. I can't tell if the leak is from the anti-siphon valve or not. Also, the water sputters when coming out of the sprinkler.

    portable air conditioner or ?

The house is 2000 square foot. The AC is at the NW corner. The bedroom in the SE corner upstairs is the hottest room in the house. I have seen the portable air conditioners. Not only are they expensive, but they apparently don't work as well as the ugly in-the-window units. Obviously, I have...
